. internal and/or external hard drive? sizes?

. GPU VRAM size

So many things can go wrong…

Can you tell us how you are monitoring your SDR trimming? are you using different monitors for HDR and SDR? what is your hardware configuration of your system?

You can disable the viewer update while rendering (in the Delivery page) by selecting the drop down menu from the three dots top right corner of the viewer monitor, and select Update During Renders > OFF. Page 3503 of the v17 manual.

You need to make sure that the Track Selector is ON for all the tracks you want to select using the shortcut key. On your picture you can tell V1 is not selected. For more information about the track selector check the DaVinci Resolve Manual v17 (from the Help menu yo can access to it) – page 598

Unfortunately it will be difficult to give you a recipe without looking at your footage, and knowing what is more important to you between small file size or best video quality.

Also if you are concerned about encoding speed, this is something else to take into account.

My guess is that you have some clips with different frame rates in your film that is confusing Resolve. Exporting with Individual Clips selected will retain the original attributes for the clips. As a workaround you may want to conform these clips separately before your export.

What are your export settings that give you trouble?

Why do you have to synchronize by hand? Resolve provide you with the possibility of syncing your footage automatically by comparing the camera mic sound waveform to your master sound waveform. If you have fair sound level recording, in my experience it works pretty well.

On a Mac, yes. Make sure you are installing DaVinci Resolve as the Administrator of your computer. It should be available to any users on that Mac.

On top of what Michael says, I would check your Preferences settings for Resolve and manually check some of the Memory and GPU and Video and Audio I/O settings.

Also make sure you don’t have any unwanted cache rendering in the background and that you know the storage location has plenty of space and have fast read/write access.

For editing, if you don’t mind to work with proxies, version 17 made it even easier to switch between your original footage and your proxies.

Even with waveform turned on, I have seen that behavior with some camera footage and long take. Sometime it might take some time to have the waveform updated.

what is your file format? the length of the clip?

I would try to cleanup cache and render files.

8-bit depth and compression video capture work against you in color grading. My recommendation would be to shoot it as close as what you want for your finished film. Cinematographer knowing the camera in and out will be able to get the most out of it. Don’t expect “to fix” things in post from that kind of footage.

I would suspect an issue with your monitoring. Do you have a proper reference monitor, pixels for pixels display?

I would make sure that your first media storage in the list is your fastest drive on your system and that it has enough room left. You can list your media storage in DaVinci Resolve > Preferences > System > Media Storage

Not all the nodes work in 3D. Make sure you use a 3D nodes. You can find out about all the 3D Texture nodes in the manual – p1794

In DaVinci Resolve > Preferences > User > Editing: check off “Always highlight current clip in the media pool”

When working in 3D in Fusion, you need a 3D-Render node at the end of your pipeline, before connecting to your MediaOut node. Also make sure to use Merge3D nodes to combine your 3D assets, as well a 3D Camera node to frame your 3D shots.

Have you already tried to build this effects in Fusion? I would think it should be fairly straight forward having the nodes for your picture and text first, then adding a node for your black and one for your white. Using mask and blending modes should get you there.

What are your settings for your color managed workflow? are you using ACES? If you have control over your production (from shooting to color/finish), why don’t you create your LUTs in Resolve using your DP feedback?

Are you rendering using the caches option? which Resolve version? what is your camera RAW setting for your RED footage?

Have you tried to check off Workspace > Full Screen Window? On a Mac it will give you access to minimizing your main window

I don’t think you need to create buses for what you are trying to do. I would just create all the tracks you need in the EDIT page or FAIRLIGHT page. Make sure you create the type of tracks that you need (stereo, mono, 5.1, etc…). You can always change the type of tracks afterwards, but just make sure it holds the right media tracks for you.

I would update to version 17 if you can, to remove the possibility of any old bugs, or at least to the 16 official version (16.2.7 or 8 I forgot)

Can you share a screen grab of your problem?

What happens when you change the settings for your screen resolution?

Two things I can think of:

. make sure you have all the Auto select track actives (Resolve Ref. Manual p584)

. if you need to delete gaps between your clips in your timeline, you can use the Edit > Delete Gaps command (Resolve Ref. Manual p592)

Yes it should not be an issue to sync your clips using one audio clips… I would use waveform matching if your scratch audio is good enough…

As far as codec, you are good… no need to transcode… now have you tried on a shorter clip and duplicated the problem you are having?

Have you tried to use the Retime control to adjust the clip to your desire?

The file extension .mov means it is an Apple Quicktime file format (a wrapper).

A Quicktime file format can contain many different type of codecs (ProRes, H.264, etc…)

Which codec was used to record the footage with the Atomos?

Like I said, depending on your system (PC, Mac, Linux…) you can transcode to ProRes, DNxHD, Cineform, etc…

I’d try to transcode to intra-frame format (ProRes, DNxHD, Cineform, etc…) and see if you still have the same issue.

Hard to tell what is really going on with your shots.

Retiming can be an intensive computer process, especially if you are doing it on long clip. Depending on your computer system and the media file format/codec, you might have some unexpected results.

I’d try to “divide and conquer”: see if your problem persist on shorter length clips.

To complete Paul’s response, now introduced in version 17, you can use the Scene Detect function from the EDIT page:

Timeline > Detect scene cuts

I am glad BMD introduced this feature at the editing level, and not only at the time of import. It is still a work in progress as you cannot trim your detection from the EDIT page.

It is difficult to say for the clips that do not sync without having a look at the footage. Have you checked the settings for the audio tracks for these clips? In any case it sounds like it is related to the issue of a different frame rate recording for your audio. I would fix that first and try again.

You may want to describe the way you are trying to sync clips in Resolve : I can think of at least 3 different ways to do it. If you want some help, try to tell us the steps you are taking.

From my experience, using audio waveform works great most of the time.

I had similar problem on previous version of Resolve and if I recall correctly it was the way my audio settings was configured in Preferences > System

I don’t think you can switch an old project to the new busing mode.

I believe you have to import your previous project in a new project and make sure the new project has the Project Settings > Fairlight > Audio Busing Mode checked off.

Place your timeline cursor where you’d like to watch the change in your animation. Double click the keyframe for which you’d like to change the parameter. A dialog box will appear and let you change the parameter for that keyframe.

Are you exporting using Individual Clips in the Delivery page? Did you add some frames handle to your clip delivery?

This settings will export your clip you work on (stabilized) and add frames before and after the IN & OUT without being stabilized.
