R3D Conform and Trim troubleshooting
Hi all,
I am conforming some 90min+ sequences right now from Premiere 2019 to Resolve 16 and having a hard time just keeping resolve open long enough to get through a 20 minute reel. All of the media is R3D 5k or Cinema DNG.I’ve broken the sequences into 20-minute reels to hopefully lighten the load on the computer and network. All media is has been copied to a thunderbolt 3 100 TB G Raid Shuttle or is already on the target thunderbolt 3 Graid 20TB delivery drive.
The project database is on a NAS server with a 1Gb connection and my renders are going to a Nexis partition.
I am able to move through the sequences quick enough while conforming shots but inevitably at some point throughout the day the project will just fail hard. At that point, I have to use a recent project backup to move the timeline into a fresh project to continue working. Usually, my pace with conforming at this point drops to barely a crawl and the rest of the afternoon is spent trying to troubleshoot the project. Restarting help, leaving the computer overnight seems to help, but I have been doing this insane workflow for a few days now and my conforms are moving in fits and starts. I dread building a full show in resolve with this media and fear I might not be able to with what I have.
I’ve also tried trimming my R3D using the media manager and RedcineX. Both have issues. Resolve’s media manager fails every time when trying to trim and it doesn’t give you any indication of where in the process it has failed. RedcineX will trim successfully but then my trimmed files rarely match my Resolve sequence when I link back up.
So, I am at a loss as far as troubleshooting goes. I might end up having to do everything in really small pieces to prep it for color. Any and all suggestions are welcome!
Thanks
