  • Various black frames in video after rendering

Im pulling my hair out here. Ive been editing on a feature for three months and have been sending low rez files to producer along the way for Time code edits. Suddenly out of nowhere Im now getting intermittent single black frames on occasion after rendering. Its only in a few places during the film and to make matters worse the black frames are never consistent. Im running a Mac Pro tower with 94GB ram, a red rocket card (This is Red Footage) and a 4xHD raid. I have several projects this month ad only see this on the feature.

Are you rendering using the caches option? which Resolve version? what is your camera RAW setting for your RED footage?

David, thank you for reaching out. I keep the cache deleted as Im not using cache option. Im using Resolve 16. My RAW setting is full resolution if that is what your asking. UPDATE: It seems I found a work around. If I replace the clip(S) with the original its fine. That just doesn’t make sense. Is the clip in the time line not pointing back to the original in the first place. Anyway it works when I replace the clip with the original raw file. Any ideas why it would do this?

I am glad you are able to make it work for you. Hard to tell what exactly is happening from here. Did you create proxies in Resolve or somewhere else? To switch from proxies to the original files, should be a mouse click away… no replacing needed. It could also be a bug in Resolve 16. I would highly recommend to move to Resolve 17… obviously when you are ready, with the usual caveats when you are in the middle of a project!
