Hi – I need to add local time burn-in and not timecode onto some video files. Tried searching, but keep coming up with timecode and countdowns – which won’t work. I need to add a local time, down to seconds. Any way to do this in PPro? Or AE?

I would think that AVID MC should be able to read them, but that’s not a definite. Have you tried Handbrake? Just to see if that will read/transcode the files correctly. Not sure why VLC would give a split screen of both fields.

Best guess is that the footage was really a variable frame rate, but who knows…. I would try using something like Handbrake to transcode to a constant frame rate and see if that works.

ProRes 422 HQ will give you a better start – less compression and better editing experience. Editing H.264 can be CPU intensive and re-compressing the H.264 can result in less than desirable results if you compress too much. However, you will quickly find out that keeping all that ProRes footage will soon fill hard drives, fast.

If you post the specs, complete specs, someone may be able to help you better. MXF and MOV are just containers, there can be any number of video codecs within those containers – including codecs with alpha channel information.

You don’t mention if you are on Mac or PC. But I’ve had that issue on my home PC. Usually just got to Project Settings / General, and set to Software only renderer as had been suggested. Let us know if that works or not.

Mac/PC, I don’t think that really matters. If you are editing off the QNAP via Gigabit ethernet, you will get questionable playback of your 4K. See if you can get a 10 Gig connection on the PC and on the QNAP server.

Adobe suggests to have your cache go to a dedicated cache SSD drive.

One thing to try. It will make longer export times. Go to your Project Settings, select General. Change your Renderer to Software Only. Does that help?

Click the 3 lines next to your Bin name “A Roll” at the top of the bin, deselect “Preview Area”. That should do it.

Actually, that sounds like a Mac security issue. When you switch from the default mic input in PPro audio settings, it should give you a Mac alert that you have to click through to allow it to use different hardware. I don’t know how to force Mac to allow it, other than reinstalling PPro. Security in Macs have gotten ridiculous.

Are you on the latest build 15.2? If not, update. If you are, uninstall, then reinstall – blow out your preferences. Report back if that helped or not.

You can save a lumetri preset. But what you want after, I don’t think that is possible. What I usually do is span an adjustment layer over a bunch of clips that I want the same Lumetri effect, like a “look”, and put the effect onto the adjustment layer.

I’m wondering if it might have something to do with finding or building all of the cache and conforming files. Could cache files with originals.

I haven’t tried it, but have you thought about using Shared Projects?

Are you sure it’s not on the footage before import? Did you check in a video player? VLC/QuickTime/Media Player? Could be the camera, card or some interference. The importing process really does nothing to the video, other than bring it into the project – it doesn’t change it, unless you’re set up to transcode on import.

Try Eric’s suggestion first.

And you’re editing mp4 files? Try transcoding those mp4 files to something like ProRes mov. Then re-edit the clip in. Then export.

To add what Oliver said, also would be helpful to know how much hard drive space is left on your media drive AND your cache drive.

If you haven’t done so, I would try saving a copy of your AE project out of the 2021 version, and try re-importing into PPro. Maybe it’s still seeing it as an older version??? I haven’t run into that.

Sounds like you’ve used AE. Why not send that clip to AE through Dynamic Link, do your work on it there. Much easier to do what you want in AE and much more control.

I’m with Eric on this. It sounds like the AE project may have been created on a different machine and you don’t have all the same plugins and fonts loaded on yours. Windows? Mac? I would open Creative Cloud. Uninstall Premiere and Reinstall it. Keep your prefs. See if that works. Otherwise, you might try trashing your prefs, but not sure that would do it.

Are you using a LUT for the C300 footage? Did the LUT come across in the upgrade? Have you tried deleting any effects on a piece of footage to see if it is related to an effect?
