I’m wondering if anyone has experienced any strange issues with 4k ProRes 422HQ 23.98 from BlackMagic cameras (Ursa and Pocket). Currently having audio dropout after playing just a few seconds. Seems to be pretty consistent. Can stop and resume playing, but then cuts out after a few seconds again. Don’t really need to shoot anything at that bit rate, but currently we have footage at that. Viewing at 1/2 or 1/4 doesn’t help. My producer created proxies and that audio cut out as well. Played from two different sources, with same results – audio cut out. And two different computers with same results. Been troubleshooting a long list of possible issues/fixes, but so far nothing other than possible source file problem.

Imported single file into new project and same results. I am told that there was a recent firmware update to both cameras. That was when the cameras switched from a lower ProRes 422 to the HQ. It wasn’t noticed right away. I believe there were new LUTs that went with that update.

One strange thing was forcing a preview render on timeline actually played audio/video fine.

Just trying to find out if anyone else has experienced any issues. Thanks!

Not directly familiar with that problem but I have had trouble at various times with smooth playback of multi-track audio from camera sources, even when Premiere is not actually “playing” all tracks. It apparently still insists on decoding them. Proxies wouldn’t help if you retain all tracks. In these cases, I transcode the tracks I need to stereo sources.

Thanks Tod! Good to note. In this case, these are just single stereo tracks. Intrepreted them to 2 mono tracks with same results. I didn’t put specs…. This is PPro v22.6.2 on Windows 10 Ent – 24 core Threadripper 3.79 Ghz, 128GB RAM and RTX 2080 Ti.

Are there drop outs in the waveforms?

No. Waveform looks fine. Can stop playing and start playing again where it stopped and it will play for a few seconds again and then drop.
