New Job and I have to sit at a PC. Ugh! Fast but there are things under the hood I am mystified about.

    – First, I can see and import files from our network server into Premiere OK but when I seek an AE comp using dynamic linking, I cannot see the network drive. Weird.
    – Second, unrendered audio cuts off after a few seconds of playback. There are waveforms but no audio. Stopping restarting playback is a temporary fix that lasts 5 secs and cuts out again.
These two issues are creating major headaches for me. My system specs are below. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

From the little bit of behavior you’ve noted in the post…I am wondering what the network/server performance is?

As far as the AE comp not seeing a server that PPro does…I’m not sure I understand what you’re describing.

I’m just trying to figure out the first one first. Media Browser shows your network drive, but when you go to File/Adobe Dynamic Link and select Import After Effects Composition, it won’t show your network drive? Even if you go to My Computer? I know Home edition has some limited network abilities, but should be able to see the shares if they are showing up in your computer.

Was this computer already set up with all your Adobe apps from a previous user, or are they new install? I may take a few minutes to uninstall and reinstall without settings/preferences.

You should probably contact your IT guy about checking that the network works correctly.

Create a shared folder and see if that works.

Sadly this is why when I work with Windows people all their files are on the desktop.

No IT support with a lot of indie types.

Is this network drive a shared video storage drive? Or is it just a network server? I don’t see what the network drive is, but you do say “network server”. If it’s just a network server, then you probably shouldn’t be trying to edit from it anyways. They aren’t built to edit video from.

This kind of oddity happens to a lot of apps on the Windows side.

From Softimage, Max, Maya, Adobe, Resolve etc..

    Just frustrating.

In the end, you need to make sure the drive is shared period.

We use a Synology NAS on both Mac/PC and it plays nice with all the above apps as far as connecting goes.

But yes, don’t use a network drive as media drive.

Video from a variety of cameras plays perfectly. Has for awhile. The video files I get from our ATMOS recorders will not play audio for more than 5 secs. So weird. I found a workaround until I check the ATMOS firmware and message boards.

I send the atmos clips to audition from the timeline. In Audition I simply save the file and bounce back to Premiere. The extracted wav plays perfectly and takes only a few seconds. At least I can get some work done…

Uggh that’s an awful workflow 🙁

    Do you mean Atomos?
I have a Shogun and have never had any issues.

Truly it is. I think their Atomos need a firmware update AND they are recording on all for audio tracks but only sent sound to 2. These are producing Atomos files that play, as indicated earlier, with dropouts. When the lads return from location I’ll give the Atomos units a going over.

If you can get a hold of the actual display/recorder and test the files yourself.

I have a Shogun and always need to see it on their first before offloading.
