We’ve been getting reports of this as well and are working with Apple to solve this. At this stage, we’re not quite sure why this is happening but can’t see anything in our drivers that will do this. It could very well be a combination of our drivers + FCP. Or Quicktime, or even the OS X updates but investigation is definitely being carried out. I would suggest you contact our tech support team via https://blackmagic-design.com/support/contact/ so that they will be able to send you any interim or potential fixes when any progress is made.

Hi Ryan,

Intensity is designed to output to a HDMI monitor and if you use a DVI monitor, the colour of the signals will not be compatible. DVI monitors require an RGB signal while Intensity outputs a YUV signal.

Hi Steve,

The Video Desktop will display when you’re not using a video application like Final Cut Pro or Blackmagic Deck Control. Firstly, what is the format of the clip you’re loading into Blackmagic Deck Control? Is it SD or HD? What frame rate is it?

If you switch the video desktop output in OS X’s Display preference pane to match the format of the video you’re trying to play in Blackmagic Deck Control, do you still see the desktop?

Hi Mark,

I think I’ve seen this being reported once but I can’t remember what was the resolution. However, I’ll be interested to find out what firmware is your Sony HVR-M25U using? There is also an audio setting in there that sets the sampling rate of the audio output between 32k and 48k. Could you please check that and see if it is set to 48kHz?

When you capture via firewire, you’ll only be limited to the DV codec. When you capture via HDMI, you have the option of chosing from DV, ProRes & Uncompressed video. This gives you more option. Also, the deck has to convert the DV video on tape to a proper video signal on the HDMI output so it’s 4:2:2 YUV. Even though the video may already be compressed onto tape, the deck will still do a decent job of decoding the signal out via HDMI.

They are totally different. PCIe cards will not work in PCI-X slots, and vice versa.
