I am having (and have had for a long time) a very annoying problem while capturing using Blackmagic Multibridge Pro.

    > Minor Problem 1: Once I select log and capture, it takes over 10 seconds for the log and capture window to open. OK, obviously not life threatening but definitely not right.

    > Major Problem 2: Once I click capture now (capturing SD-SDI VIDEO & AUDIO from DigiBeta), the system takes 6 seconds and 9 frames before it actually starts to capture. Very annoying when capturing lots of clips.

but…. the delay is different when capturing just video, i that instance the delay is reduced to 2 sec 23 frames.

but…. when capturing just audio the delay is again out to 6 sec 9 frames. Why would capturing audio cause such a lengthy delay??

This problem is compounded (the delay is nearly doubled!!!) when I have a canopus ADVC110 attached to the system by firewire. What the??

Drive specs are definitely not an issue as the capture RAID drive writes at 390+MB/sec.

I’ve spoken with Blackmagic Australia many times regarding this issue, they have never heard of it happening, and have even gone as far to send out a replacement Multibridge to test (with the same results).

I capture everything using ProRes422HQ but I have done hours of testing using different capture settings, different capture drives (including internal HD).

Who do you turn to when the manufacturers can’t help?

    Hi.

If you remove MB does your machine work faster in eny way when capturing?

Have you eliminated all other configuration problems or conflicts ?

    Hi,

What is the latest driver you’ve tried that is doing this?

If you use Blackmagic Deck Control to capture, is it doing the same thing?

    regards

in your Scratch Disk Settings, limit capture to 30 minutes or less. Its setting up a target quicktime file the size of your entire scratch disk. You can test if this is true by doing a log and capture. If it starts capturing right away, this is the problem…

Now, Kristian, about that downconversion problem I’m having, a little help?

Unfortunately Charles that is not the case as changing this setting does nothing. But I did feel a glimer of hope after reading your response so I do thank you for it.

Very early on in my testing one of the first things was to isolate if it the problem happened while capturing to other drives as well, so all my drives were tested, they included internal HD’s external Firewire drives, external eSata drive and the RAID drive. ALL drives recorded the same lag while capturing so the problem definitely doesn’t relate to drive size.

Any other idea’s cos I am stumped and so is everyone else in Adelaide.

I have gone so far as to completely reformat my OS drive and reinstall ALL software!! nothing changed.

Kristian, I initially spoke to you about this one and you were going to bring it up with apple during conference call. Did anything eventuate from this?
