Hi Philip,

If you capture Uncompressed, you will be dealing with data rates of about 120 Mb/sec at 1080i60. Of course, you can also capture to compressed codecs such as ProRes, DVCPRO HD etc.

No, you do not have to downgrade to Final Cut Pro 5. Final Cut Pro 6 is perfectly fine.

Firstly, what application are you using to output video?

Have you installed the drivers? Did the installation complete successfully?

Is the Intensity Control Panel present in Control Panels? Are the options available, i.e. not greyed out?

Hi Hugh,

To confirm the model of your card, just go into the OS X system preferences, then click on the DeckLink preference pane. It will tell you at the top of the window.

The port on the back of the HD Extreme is a breakout connection with analog video, AES audio and RS422. You can order the replacement cables from any of our resellers. Check this page for their listing.

Alternatively, you can also find someone to wire up a custom cable with only the RS422 connections for you. On the Dsub 26 pin connection, pins 17,7,9,18 and 8 map to pins 1,2,3,7 and 8 of the RS422 9-pin connection respectively.

Hi David,

This is completely expected. The DeckLink Extreme card’s audio output at +4dB. The Intensity Pro’s analog audio output is -10dB.

The Sony / Panasonic preferences are located in Final Cut Pro’s device control presets as it is Final Cut Pro that handles the interpretation of data from the VTR and back, we merely provide the serial port interface.

Hi Steve,

If you have 2 monitors physically connected to your Mac, you should see a third display which is the video desktop installed by our drivers.

The video desktop output option only works when you’re not using a video application like Final Cut Pro or Blackmagic Deck Control. i.e. If you’re using Final Cut Pro, you’ll see the video output. When you switch out of Final Cut Pro to the OS X Finder, you will see the video desktop.

If the video desktop output is switched off, this happens. When you are in Final Cut Pro, you get video output. When you switch to the Finder, the output of the card switched off which could explain why your Sharp monitor is showing up with that message.

If you have the desktop output switched on and you’re still seeing your Mac desktop while in Final Cut Pro or Blackmagic Deck Control, then the application is either:

a) Not taking over the video output due to a misconfiguration.
b) Playing back a format that is not supported

When you’re in Final Cut Pro, did you use the easy setups we’ve provided to setup your project? Is the View > External Video option in the menu bar set to “All Frames”?

Hi Richard,

It’s lower in cost because it does not have SDI and RS422 so if you use the HD Extreme card, you’ll have SDI inputs and outputs as well as deck control via RS422.
