I’ve seen that some people (including myself) seem to have the following problem; after editing for about an hour, FCP very gradually start to react slower… and slower…untill hitting the spacebar results in about half a second before playing, or scrolling through a clip feels like wading through jelly (excuse my english). I’ve noticed that the problem does not seem to be FCP related, because it appears over different versions. The latest Quicktime-update could be the thing, or OSX, or ofcourse the decklink drivers. I tried reinstalling the decklinkcard, and I moved it to another slot, no results. Also I’ve noticed that sending my video through firewire to the monitor instead of the decklinkcard makes my set run smoothly again. Closing/reopening the project also does the trick. But these workarounds are no true solutions; I need my set to respond crispy. Is there anyone who has tackled this problem allready? I’m planning on reinstalling my entire set, buying some extra RAM and go back a few updates, but before I do, I want to be sure there is no light at the end of this tunnel yet.

    My specs:

    – G5, dual 2ghz, 2,5 GB RAM
    – OS X 10.4.11
    – Decklink HD Extreme 6.6.3. in slot 3
    – Quicktime 7.4.1 (14)

I have the same problem, and have had it for a long time. I thought the problem was introduced with fcp 6. Changing the timeline setting from unlimited realtime to safe and back again fixes the issue for some time.

    Hi Paul,

We’ve been getting reports of this as well and are working with Apple to solve this. At this stage, we’re not quite sure why this is happening but can’t see anything in our drivers that will do this. It could very well be a combination of our drivers + FCP. Or Quicktime, or even the OS X updates but investigation is definitely being carried out. I would suggest you contact our tech support team via https://blackmagic-design.com/support/contact/ so that they will be able to send you any interim or potential fixes when any progress is made.

    regards
