You’re not doing anything wrong at all. You can also open that same exported clip in QuickTime Player, or After Effects, or any other QuickTime application. It just has a “handle” to FCP and that special icon which makes it look like an FCP file, that’s why opening it by double clicking it opens it in FCP. You can control click on it, and choose QT player instead and it will open right up.
As far as the codec for the Panny PC version… I have no idea where to get it… maybe google it? Anyone?

Whose converter? Might be something there that’s wonky. Is it AJA’s converter? or?
What do the properites of a captured clip say?

EDL’s can’t use tape names longer than 8? or so characters… but why export an EDL at all? just use the project file for recapture…

I think you’d be OK to go with 10.4.1 and FCP 4.5 as long as you’ve done a clean installation of it all. Start with an erased drive.

If you don’t need two 30″ CD’s it’s the way to go I think… fastest Mac card out there. https://www.barefeats.com reports it to be the fastest card. Plus, it doesn’t take up two slots like the rest, which would be in my case, mandatory.

June 25, 2005 at 8:16 pm in reply to: JUST CHECKING — FCP 4.5 on TIGER work OK? (cross-post)As long as the install is clean, you should be good to go… i.e. new mac? just run Software Update to get the latest, then install FCP 4, update it to 4.5 etc… repair permissions and edit.

I’d be looking at the ATI X800 card… doesn’t take up an extra slot and is the fastest out there pretty much… should fall into your budget too.

June 23, 2005 at 10:38 pm in reply to: Just upgraded to Tiger and now everything’s busted! You should do a clean install of any new OS I think. Do it, it’s worth the peace of mind. You can even buy another drive and install from the ground up if you want to.
If you erase it’s best. If you choose “archive and install” from the options button, it just replaces the OS.
Better backup your docs right now… just because.

I think I’d start by checking another clip… does it do it always or only on this one?
