I was told by an Apple employee that they tried a touchscreen (and there is every reason to believe they did) and their arms got too tired holding them them up all day long. They found they wanted to rest their wrists while working. A lot of editing with a client in the room wouldn’t work as nice if the touch panel was horizontal or flatter on the desktop probably. Dunno, but having the right-clicking contextual menus just pop up on a keyboard sounds useful and surely faster than a 3 key keyboard command, or am I wrong?
I’ll let you know. I bought one yesterday.

But first, be sure you are viewing all clips in the event or library that is giving you the warning that media is offline. Yellow triangle with an “!, Right?

June 16, 2013 at 9:00 am in reply to: Will FCPX editors not buying the new MacPro be very disadvantaged?Well, you’ll find it likely renders in the background better… might actually do it simultaneously. But from the point of view of what it will support in real time, it’s likely going to be a beast with the next version of FCP. So there will be those speed disadvantages. However the next gen version of FCP will run just as well as it does now on your current machines I’d wager. That’s been the history of FCP.
Export to file speeds should be amazing. It’s made for the next generation of video. Will you need to buy one right away? Likely not. A very busy editor will benefit more than one that isn’t as busy… If you’re going to edit 4k, it’s a no brainer I’d think.
There will be a lag time for a while too. People who have invested in expensive video cards will likely want to use them yet for a while. Manufacturers will need to support TB2, and that takes a lot of time as well.
But the immediate “disadvantage” to you not buying one will primarily be speed, and less RT playback of un-rendered material.

I think the third-party manufactures will have to adapt to this machine to take advantage of all that raw power. So it will be interesting at NAB 2014! it makes a lot of sense for most pro users. Some enterprising company with the graphics GPU acceleration might do well in a couple of years.. If there’s really a need , after all this has extremely beefy graphics already. FCP X.1 will likely amaze. Apple usually has 10 year plans for everything. We start year 3 with FCP X this year. Apple likely spec’d this machine 4 years ago.

Pricing history on Mac Pros suggests that the pricing will be pretty close to what it has been. G4s to G5s to intel were all around the same pricing when the next gen machines were introduced as I recall. They could change this behavior, but I don’t think they will.
This machine will make FCP X really sing I’ll wager, and run anything you can throw at it for at least it’s logical lifetime expectancy. It’s about a 4 year lifespan to run current Pro Apps well from all the majors seems like. Then along comes a new wiz bang software you need more power for…
This Mac is about the same size as the original Macintosh. Bit faster eh?

Make the project settings in LiveType the same as your sequence’s settings.
