In FCP 1-7, the idea here is to keep the media drives set aside to just play the media files, and let the startup disk only pay attention to the apps, and project files.

It’s different in FCP X. project and event files should reside on a dedicated media drive. It’s because they contain the media files, imported, and rendered.

THe only thing left is to remove any 3rd party plugins you have installed. If that fails, you should perform a clean install. i.e., backup your hard disk, and then erase it installing the OS then Studio… Clean. And if that fails, then you have a hardware problem most likely.

It’s because most folks will never need to access that library… It keeps the uninitiated away more or less I suppose.

Post more about the source material and the sequence settings you are using. DSLR files original or?

Also post more about your setup. What are you using as a scratch disk?

LOL… typed too fast, then couldn’t edit this.. so here’s another try:

Click on the Go menu in the Finder holding down the option key. From there select the above mentioned library…

Using newer OS setups, you need to hold don the option key and click on the go menu from the finder to dins the library that has the above folder in it.

They want separate audio and video files. Choose file/export/qt Movie… Choose video only and use current settings.

The audio will be a bit more difficult if they want separate tracks for music, sync tracks and sound fx if any. You’ll need to put each of these on their own tracks, then export these tracks separately. You do this the same way except you turn off the tracks in the sequence except for the ones you’re exporting.

Try exporting your sequence as a self contained QuickTime movie. Then open that file in DVD SP. Don’t encode it… file/export/QT movie.

January 6, 2013 at 6:43 pm in reply to: FCP Text to DVD without quality loss?

If you’re moving on the stills with motion effects, and do them without making the image size exceed 1920X1080, then edit them in a ProRes 4:2:2 sequence set to be at 29.97, and then compress that HD version to an SD DVD in DVD SP. It’s a garbage in/garbage out situation. Send that whole sequence to Motion for the titles or use Title 3D for them. The text tools in FCP are bitmapped, but those Title 3D titles are not. They’ll hold up better. Making them larger rather than smaller will help preserve them too when you compress for that DVD’s SD file set.
