QT Export procedure issue

You’re not doing anything wrong at all. You can also open that same exported clip in QuickTime Player, or After Effects, or any other QuickTime application. It just has a “handle” to FCP and that special icon which makes it look like an FCP file, that’s why opening it by double clicking it opens it in FCP. You can control click on it, and choose QT player instead and it will open right up.

As far as the codec for the Panny PC version… I have no idea where to get it… maybe google it? Anyone?

Yhanks Jerry, but it seems like extra steps. First export as QT, then export the new clip again as QT conversion. I’m fairly certain that this was easier in the past.

Thanks for the google suggestion, but it didn’t work – yet.

You can do it all in one step… you don’t need to do it twice, just choose conversion, or even choose the DVCPR0100 codec from the File/Export/QT Movie… command. there’s a dialog box to change it to whatever you want there… either that or just use QT conversion. I’d imagine the quality is the same.

Thanks Jerry. Pretty sure I did exactly that. But operator error seems a so much more comforting excuse…

However, I have a bigger issue. I needed to do some offsite AE stabilizing work on a PC, and since I also wanted to stay native, I just exported at dvcpro HD, ASSUMING (oops) I’d be able to dl the codec for a PC. Well…so far it ain’t been easy, and I haven’t found it.

sorry not very helpful, but I’m not entirely sure the DVCPRO codecs are available for d/l for your PC.
these are Panasonics proprietary codecs licensed to Apple … for our graphics/PC work we found it was necessary to adopt an intermidate codec.

nonetheless, if you do find them, or someone else has that info, then please post.

Thanks Andy, that’s what I did last week. I used MJPEG B and reconverted back to dvcpro HD in FCP. The end result looked more than fine. I’ll do the same again.

I have this same problem. I’m a compositor and I work in After Effects on a PC. More and more, I work with clients who are using FCP HD for editing. And I can’t read the exported files. I’ve been searching for a DVCPRO codec for Windows Quicktime for some time now. Ultimately, any compositing work should be done on Uncompressed footage, so I usually ask the editor to export from FCP as Animation Uncompressed. This offers optimal quality. But if the editor just wants me to look at a rough cut, having to export as Animation takes much longer and is cumbersome. PLEASE, can someone help in the search for a Windows Quicktime DVCPRO codec? I’ve tried the ones offered by Pinnacle, Matrox, and Main Concept. None will read the FCP HD Quicktimes.
