I’d compare the two if possible. I’m not sure about the decklink card, but do know that the Kona 2 does this… but don’t expect miracles… SD upconverted isn’t going to knock your socks off… it’s soft.

I’m pretty sure that when you use the Motion tab on a vector based graphic, it softens it… turning into a bit mapped graphic… is that what is happening here? i.e. you used something like Title 3D for the titles, then used the motion tab’s crop right? Reason the matte doesn’t do this is it is preserving the vector graphic.

Well I have to correct bogie (which isn’t very often) FCP 5 will address up to 4 gigs, but rarely uses that much… Motion 2 however will address all you can give it… It’s nice to run multiple apps, and do multi tasking… so the more the merrier I’d think. If you restrict yourself to 1 gig chips though, you could start with a couple or 4 gigs and see if you feel adding more would help your workflow… you can always add 2 more gigs at a time.

What was the original material? DVCPRO100?

You can do it all in one step… you don’t need to do it twice, just choose conversion, or even choose the DVCPR0100 codec from the File/Export/QT Movie… command. there’s a dialog box to change it to whatever you want there… either that or just use QT conversion. I’d imagine the quality is the same.

No fix. Just start over. JUST KIDDING!!!
Restart your Mac… try again… if no joy trash your preferences, try again, if no joy then trash your render files, and open it… there’s likely a bad render file causing the memory overrun… re render and export… If still no joy post back.

In the Canvas, select RGB as the viewing option. It’s set to Alpha sounds like…

Export using File/Export/QuickTime Movie… then leave it at “current settings” and make it self contained and you have a QT file which is lossless. The QT Conversion command will recompress it in all cases even if not changing the original codec of the material, so it’s not as clean…

Just drag your favorites to a project file, save it to add them back and trash the prefs…
