Quicktime from Pro is a poor option, but;
File>Export>Adobe media Encoder
Choose Quicktime as the format and the Preset “QT 256 Streaming NTSC” -
Mpeg 1, 640 x480, 30 fps, 2,300 kbps video, 224 kbps audio. Will play on any PC and Mac.

I have tossed out several firewire cables for that reason. Also have 2 cams where the firewire port has quit. Lots of “things” can fail.

Do you have a 3rd party capture card installed…Matrox~Canopus?? If yes, install their drivers.

Adding another 512 gb RAM will keep Pro from using the Page file, which can slow things way down on larger projects. I would not try to do serious editing with only 512.
Another video card (Nvidia 128 MB) will help with GUI redraw issues (Pro’s interface gets funky with bits of the desktop showing thru and window trails, etc.). Also having a card with Open GL will give you a few more effects in Pro. -
Pro wont work with 1.5 because Pinnacle dropped driver support for the DV500 and Pro-One a while back.

I would be concerned about a unresposive hard drive where the source files are located.
What capture card are you using? -
Windows will prevent you from opening any file that is open on another computer,except as “Read only”. The message will tell you who is working on the file.
There are other issues when using source video files stored on a network server involving lack of response and poor previews…stuttering, etc. -
Timeline renders are for previews only and have no other function, excpet some use these to export to tape. Exporting Mpeg, AVI’s or WMV;s does not use the rendered preview files.

In PP, File>Save as…
Change the “File of type” to Jpeg
Use the Jpegs is ProSorry, you will loose all animation.
