I agree with Ralph, but RAM does not do the rendering, the CPU does.

What sound card are you using? Try updating drivers. Look into “Audio Hardware” settings in Preferences.

Disable the card in Device Manager. Open Pro with “DV-NTSC Standard 48 Hz” Project settings. Capture some footage with a generic firewire connection.
Use only Pro’s effects. Give it a try.
Really shines with a 3.0+ P4 HT with at least 1 GB of dual channel DDR RAM. -
My experience with several stand alone DVD burners is that they wont “see” a PC connected via firewire, only some camcorders. They are looking for a device that they can control.

Digital Video captured via firewire is 4:1:1
With an expensive analog capture card like Deck Link, and its associated plug-in for Pro, you could capture analog from a Beta deck/cam via SDI in 4:2:2 color space, but any effects applied will cause Pro to render in 4:1:1.

What is the source and properties of your source video that bogs things down?
It is normal for Pro and Elements to conform the audio files right after import and this can cause things to slow down for a few minutes.
One concern is that you have only one hard drive…with 3 tasks to do at the same time; run the OS and Elemets, read video files and read conformed audio files. A second hard drive for captured video might speed things up. -
A DV camcorder’s tape contains only data…no codec yet. When transfered to a computer via firewire, the data file is wrapped in a “header” so Windows and other apps can play it.
I am not sure of how you are going to get video from a PC to a stand alone DVD burner, certainly not via firewire. You would need analog out outputs from the PC which generates an NTSC signal for the burner…OR use the camera as a pass-thru…firewire from PC to cam and then RCA/S/video to the burner…no device control, but dooable.
You would really need to export your finished movie back to DV tape and from there to the burner for device control and precise burn (no extras at front or rear end). -
Try using a drive other than your system drive for the CFA files (Preferences).

1.3 is for Premiere 6.5.
I dont think there is a version # for the Adobe media Encoder, nor any upgrades available for it in Pro 1.51.
