No there is no secret here for what you are doing. If you want to make a mirror image that is more realistic then I would use the track motion and not pan/crop. You will need to make two tracks with the text. Select track motion and then change the source from source Alpha to 3D and position it where you need to in relation to the other track. You will have much better control in all planes.
Just tried to duplicate what you were experiencing and I couldn’t. Mine works just fine but I will say at times I have come across an FX, track motion, pan crop function that ceased to function for some reason. Especially seems to happen on a particular track and not all tracks. Don’t ask why I have no idea. So after racking my brains the first few times I just create a new track and then copy the track into the new one. Voila it fixes itself!! It seems Vegas gets locked in an wont let go, again don’t know why it just does.

Hey Paul I took the time to read all of your posts and can certainly see the frustration level you are dealing with. File size on the time line should have nothing to do with it. I routinely use 1 gig plus files and many of them with no hitch at all and on much lesser of a machine than you are running.
There are so many factors going on at the same time that it is hard to pinpoint where the problem is. What I find odd is that Vegas will render to a format that you cannot then again place on the time line. EX…AC3 audio.
As I had mentioned before when I finally got a hold of a real tech person I was able to have a direct line to them and he also provided me with their FTP (File transfer Protocol) so I could upload the files for them to test. It might be the extra step to help solve the riddle. Personally I think it is frustrating to have to constantly look for workarounds on every project. But like John Rofrano had mentioned the video world is non standard and with so many different formats from software to hardware the chances are pretty good there will be a hiccup. I use a free video file converter for my offending files and it has saved the day many times over. For me it is like having to dig into my kids play tools for a screwdriver because mine is broken. Vegas does have issues and unfortunately the users (us) are the beta testers and real time tech support.
Again sorry this does not shed light but I would take it in small steps and keep track of what you have done.

Hey John…seems like this is a week of frustration for me. I downloaded Gearshift and opened Vegas then ran the script. It opened fine then I realized I needed to be sure the properties needed to matched so I exited the program. Numerous attempts to no avail…now I get the message that my trial has expired. Shutdown, reboot, double checked date/time, no problems there. So before I purchase it I would like to actually try it. Can you shed some light on this? Thanks again.

Codecs are short for Compression Decompression, and all that means is a format in which the file size is reduced but the quality of the original source is maintained with as little noticeable loss. That is why there are so many of them. It is a constant effort to look control file size and not lose quality, but in the end it is always a tradeoff to some degree. It all depends on what you final product is.
Back to your original problem I would again surmise it is a Vegas issue and I am sorry I cannot provide further help. I am still running XP here and as a rule I never jump on any upgrade until it had been out there and been beta tested by us the users.
I thought I had read that Vegas only sees 2 gigs of Ram….no matter how much you have but I really can’t recall where at this point. Keep us posted and I hope you can find a solution.

Make sure that you have the opacity set to 100% in the masking properties and also if you are looking for sharp edges then do not use any feathering as it will show through the edges. Other than that it should not show through at all. Let me know is this helps.

Just to be clear about what you are doing. You want to save the edit list but will delete the files? If you do that then having and edit list will do you know good as it will not be able to locate the source files. If you move the files it will have to find them all over again. Hopefully this is not what you meant to convey.

You can’t copy the VOB files like that because it does truncate them. Use the import DVD disc selection instead and it will convert the DVD.

There are jobs out there for Vegas but the reality that I have seen and continue to see in posting after posting is explicitly for FCP. This has nothing certainly to do with the talent behind the system of course.
I would have to say that in the last few years I have only seen Vegas asked for twice. For those jobs that don’t they are usually for non film people. I’d like to see the tide turn quicker and try my best to convince clients it does not matter what’s in the box. Problem comes in when you are part of a team and unfortunately majority rules and it is not for Vegas.

Just as a test can you render a small portion with just a few of the markers included. If that results in the same problem render in SD and try another format. WMV, MPEG2 whatever… Let us know.
