It’s a no brainer… for 99 bucks you get the STUDIO not just FCP 5… do it! And as Peter mentioned… you’ll need Tiger too… (not bad though, you’ll love it I’ll wager)

Sort of sounds like a field dominance problem. If you’re working in DV, the the LOWER field should be set to be the dominant field. (Lower field first). You can change this back and forth to see if this is the problem, by clicking on this property in the Field Dominance column in the Browser.

If you want to edit it now or someday… I think DVCAM tape is the way to go with it. Better stock..

Seems there’s not a lot of talk here at the COW about the Midi interface… On pages III- 99-100 is the procedure to install… you’ve followed this, and …nothing?

I’ve use the G-Tech Raids for uncompressed SD… works like a charm. I really like these drives because they are very quiet, and they always use Hitachi drives inside, so you are getting the fastest, and the most reliable without a worry…

Actually, it does render a bit slower on any motion effects if you don’t change the stock settings in the sequence video processing tab. If you change that back to “fast” it’s the same quality and speed as FCP HD was. But if you use “normal” or “Best” the Motion renders will be slower, however of higher quality. Other than that, the speed should be pretty much the same.

add some slug to either end of the sequence before you output it… use a couple of frames of slug before and after… no flash frames…

There is a timecode window burn filter in FCP that could do this for you.. it’s found in the Video Filters/ Video submenu.

Don’t think that you’d see a big speed bump per se between the two, however the extra RAM (and it’s on a single chip too) and the 256MB graphic display as well as the larger Hard drive (And I’d suggest you upgrade that to the 7200RPM drive) is certainly worth the price bump.
In general, I follow mama’s rules… “You can’t have too much computer nor too much RAM”…
