    I keep hearing about this, but I’m always looking for the opposite – Windows machines running Mac OS would be far cooler.

    I wonder what the strategy is for Apple to run an OS that even Windows is trying(badly) to replace.

    ================

    Simple. They want to give people who want to switch but are afraid a crutch.

    Apple is betting that Windows users will make a dual-boot Mac their next computer, they’ll like OS X more than Windows, and when it comes time to upgrade again in a few years they’ll say “hey, I hardly ever flip over to Windows that much…I probably won’t even bother putting it on my Mac this time.”

    This may LOOK like they’re trying to “play nice” with Windows, but this is actually the first shot in a war on Windows.

    No question: This is to help sell h/w and it will.

    Apple has said that will never happen and I believe that. Apple is a hardware company, you have to buy their hardware to run their OS.

    A dual-boot machine is a wonderful way for Windows users to dip their toes into the Apple world and for Apple to be more accepted into the Windows World. It’s the best of both worlds on one machine. For people like me who love to play games, it will be great to be able to purchase Windows based games, but play them on my Macs.

    Intersting how this was released just two weeks before NAB.

    I am with Walter, I have always laughed that Wintel Machine were cheaper. when you think about all the stuff that apple ships in it’s hardware (Gig -E for example) that was very expensive to add to a stock wintel machine and still is with some brands, There were first to include DVD writers in laptops, wireless, Firewire, DVI out, optical audio is stock configurations.

    Now if they just felt the same way about OpenGL, and full GPU support.

    This is huge for me… I have my family on Mac and they love it. Microsoft Money is the only reason I fire up my aging Sony Vaio. Now I can replace it with a new Mac and keep my software. (the stock price could use the bump too!).
