If there are things you have to apply to many events, you can use scripts to enhance your workflow.

Here is a script to use for matching aspect ratio. I don’t know who wrote it, but just try and see if it works in your version of Vegas. (If you don’t know how to apply scripts, we can explain to you).

So why don’t you just use Photoshop CS2 Actions for the conversion?

In photoshop CS2:
Open a .jpg image
Open the ACTION palette (WINDOWS-ACTIONS)
Click on the CREATE NEW ACTION button at the bottom of the pallette
Give the ACTION a name and click RECORD
Perform all the tasks you would like to do with the image (in this case only saving as .PNG in a new folder
Click the STOP RECORDING button at the bottom of the ACTION pallette.

You have just made your first ACTION

To play your ACTION on a folder with images:
FILE-AUTOMATE-BATCH
a popup windows opens
Select the ACTION you would like to perfom (you gave it a name!)
Select the folder with the images you would like to change
Select the folder you want to save the new .PNG images
Click OK

Time to get your well earned cup of coffee….

In the Pro Type Titler, there is no option to shift the baseline of individual characters. Ofcourse you could repair this by making all the Western characters in separate textblocks, but that will give you an enormous amount of extra work. A better solution would be to use Graffitti, a plugin for Vegas 8. This plugin allows you to shift the baseline from individual characters.
Apart from that, it does everything the Protype titler does and much more. The only thing is that I’m not sure whether it will work with Vegas 9. But there will be people here who can tell you this in case you are working with Vegas 9 Pro.

It sounds like you selected for FX bypassed just on top of the preview window.

To create masks, you can even make use of Sony Cookie Cutter effect or the black and white generated media (like you will find under the color gradient). However, whether they are usefull will completely depend on which shape your mask needs to be.

Just place the 5 images on 5 different videotracks on top of each other. Then for each track you go to the trackmotion window, which you will find in the trackheader.
In the trackmotion window you can set the size, place and movement for each image.
Once you are in the trackmotion window, it is selfexplaning.
Make sure you select the LOCK ASPECT RATIO button on top of this window (unless you want to change this).
If you mess everything up on a track, just right-click on the white field in the trackmotion window and choose RESTORE BOX.

If your file splits at 3.99 GB, it means that your harddisk is formatted as FAT32. You have to change this to NTSF, which allows larger files.
You can change this without the need to reformat your disk and without any loss of data.

If you are working under Windows XP:
Go to your DOS box and type Convert X:/FS:NTFS

(X stands for the letter of the disk!!).

To change the color of the shirt, you can use the secondary color corrector. Use the SELECT EFFECT RANGE pipet to select the color range you would like to change. Change the color in the secondary color corrector.
Selecting the SHOW MASK enables you to see the mask you produced. If you wish, you can improve the mask with the LIMIT LUMINANCE sliders.
If the color of the shirt is also present in other parts of the event, you can duplicate the track with the T-shirt and by using a mask you can make sure that the effect is only working on the T-shirt while the area outside of the T-shirt remains unaffected.

Ofcourse this works also if you don’t want to change to color of the T-shirt but only want to make it lighter. In that case you do exactly the same, but after selecting the color of the T-shirt, you play with the sliders for saturation and/or gamma.

The Sepia effects can be found within Vegas under the FX: Film Effects. Black and white can e.g. be achieved via the Film effects, via the BLACK and WHITE FX or by adding the COLOR CORRECTOR fx and setting the saturation to zero. The results are not identical with these effects, so just see what you like most.

Having specific parts of an event combined with specific parts of another event is no problem. To achieve this, you make use of a mask. A mask can be made inside the event pan/crop window or you can make a black/white/grey mask in any graphic editor and apply it in Vegas. This last possibility is not very useful when you want to change the mask in time. But a mask made in the pan/crop event can be keyframed in time. However, Pixelans Spicemaster can do miracles in making time-dependend masks.

To add the black and white/grey mask to your video:
Create three video tracks.
Place the black and white clip on top.
Place the two video clips on the two layers below.
Add the fx MASK GENERATOR to the black and white event and choose the option LUMINANCE
Choose the composition mode MULTIPLY (MASK) for the upper track.
Make the middle track a child of the upper track.
