‘Did I read something somewhere that said, you could do all your text setup in MS Word, then transfer or import it into the titler? If so where can that info be seen so I know how it can be done?’

After reading carefully the link I gave you, you should be able to find your way around in the pro type titler. There are only three steps involved: choosing the CHILD, setting the AUTOMATION and setting the CASCADE. The whole procedure has been described there very clearly. Just take the time to read through and follow all the steps.

But ofcourse the creative ideas have to come from the user him or herself. It are your own ideas that make the effect special.

1. When you add an fx effect to your event, you can keyframe this effect in time so that e.g. the transition from normal colors to sepia can be set exactly how you like it. You find the timeline to set keyframes at the bottom of the video fx popup window.

2. To get an overlay with equal intensity, simply place both events on two tracks above each other and make the opacity of the upper track 50%. You can use the opacity envelop on the timeline or the levels-slider in the trackheader.
Or you can play with the composition modes from the upper track to get nice blendings.
And to get very special customized blendings, you can use the pixelan plugin Spicemaster.

A dual language DVD is very simpel in DVDA:

Open DVDA
Drag your videofile from the explorer to the Overview window and place it above the ‘menu 1’ folder
Double click on the video file. It will appear in the timeline.
Drag audio file 1 to the audio track.
Click on the + sign above the timeline to insert a second audio track (up to 8 tracks are allowed)
Drag your second audio file to this new audio track.
Choose languages for each audio track from the puldown menu in the trackheader of the audio tracks.

From the toolbar choose INSERT and EMPTY BUTTON
In the BUTTON PROPERTIES WINDOW choose ACTION and for COMMAND: LINK, for DESTINATION choose fom the pulldown menu the video file.
Choose for SET AUDIO TRACK one of your languages.
Repeat for the other language.
Select each button in the preview window and go the the BUTTON PROPERTIES window-BUTTON STYLE to be able to add some text and/or graphics to the buttons
Finish your menu with a background, background music etc. as usual.

Since your camera contains a hard disk drive, shouldn’t you first copy your files to the harddisk from your PC (e.g. using windows explorer), then open Vegas and drag the files onto the timeline. Then their is no need for Vegas to recognize your camera.

And about your first question (sorry, I didn’t realize you had two questions):
To add an effect before blending, just add the effects to the events.

To add an effect after the blending: open a new project and blend the two events. Save the project as a .veg file and import this new .veg file into your main project (just drag it onto the timeline). It will appear as 1 event. Then add the effects to this event.

Good that you can open your project in Vegas 9. But are the red and green thumbnails gone?
I would be very much worried that you are dealing with a hardware problem (memory defect?). Probably John Rofrano can tell you more about this.
