Try select all and move them to the right.
Personally I use Excalibur for this purpose. -
In the trimmer make a subclip out of the event. It will then show up in the project media. Then right click drag the subclip and drop it over the event on the timeline. Chose add as take. Then choose the take you want. The one with sound.

That has been a big bug discovered in 9a. Should hopefully be corrected in 9b. It actually is not in 9.0 so if you still have it you could go back and do the project in there.

Its strange that the fx chain is empty when you reopen the project. As stated above maybe you forgot to apply it to the event. Or maybe the answer lies in what you mean when you said that you “Saved the project etc“

If Mikes suggestion doesn’t work try resetting the screen resolution to a higher resolution. Right click on your desktop in an empty space and choose properties on the pop up menu. Choose settings and then reset to a hiher setting. This will make everything smaller and you should see the window. Move the window back into the middle of the screen. Then redo the settings to your original.
If you are already at your highest resolution you are SOL. Just kidding! You might try rebooting Vegas while holding the shift key. That resets everything to factory default and your window will be back in place. BEWARE – you will lose any custom settings you have applied. Also I always forget wheteher it is shift or ctrl or alt but I believe it is shift.

Just render out your HD project to SD. Should look better than a project shot SD and rendered SD.

Auto ripple should not have clips connected tpgether so that they follow from one track to another. Be sure that they are UNgrouped.

If you are bringing 16:9 footage into Vegas set the project properties accordingly. When you render back out keep everything wide. If your DVD player and your TV are set up right it will play correctly.

Either grab ahold of the end of the clip and Ctrl-drag it to the right. Or drop a velocity envelope onto it and adjust accordingly. Or both. Maximum slo-down with this combined procedure is I believe 12x. If you need more, render it out and do it again.
