Thanks.
One other query about this camera.
Can I name a project at the beginning of a shoot and have that name
attach itself to all the MXF files? In what I’ve done so far, I end up with
all these bizarre numbered files in my Avid and no way to track what
project they are associated with. I have an SD card installed, and thought
this was a rather simple matter…but the logic of it has escaped me thusfar. Thanks for any guidance.

This is such a glaring weakness that Avid really should fix.
IMHO, it is crazy that you have to jump through hoops just to
nest a number of audio effects….Ron

I worked on an Avid Adrenaline for several years, then switched (with a new job) to FCP. My initial experience on Final Cut was frustration, but that came from needing to unlearn years of Avid training. Once I caught on (and there’s an excellent book for people going from Avid > FCP) I learned to love FCP.
Putting all the technical issues (discussed above) aside, I think FCP is a faster and more intuitive interface. Some of this may come from the fact that I’m a Mac guy from way back, but I just found myself ENJOYING editing. The modal approach of Avid now seems unnecessarily crude and time consuming to me…
I guess what I’m saying is that “user friendliness” should be part of the equation when considering the two systems. Yes, they “do the same things,” but often in quite different ways. Since this is a tool we all use every day, it’s important that it feels comfortable in your hand…like a good hammer!

I appreciate the flame warning! Though, considering how cold it is where I live, a little fanny warming won’t be the worst thing.
I am using both a DNA and a Mojo, and I think I’ll stick with my workflow of importing at 1:1 and working in that space…until I hear otherwise…and have the disk space.
Thanks again.

If I were investing in a new system, I’d (IMHO) go with FCP…but maybe that’s because I’ve always been a Mac guy. But the interface and less modal approach just appeals to me…and I learned on Avid and cut with it for years.
Part of the decision depends on what you’re going to cut and how much you want to invest. I’ve been totally sold on FCP..and I now have to relearn Avid, as I just landed at an All Avid All the Time house!

Sorry if I was being obtuse 🙂
Yes, I can’t get the Avid to sense audio via firewire. The pulldown
is set correctly and it passes video, but no audio.Ron

I though the only difference between the regular and the Academic versions was
that the manual in the Academic version is twice as long and written in very
obtuse language… 🙂 -

set to one that either didn’t have the capacity or the speed to
keep up. This sometimes happens after a crash and you forget to
reset the scratch…Ron

You aren’t using the DIEBOLD plug-in, are you 😉
