    Hi –

I think I’m correct is saying that I can’t overcrank the HVX200 if it is in an SD mode
    at 24P or 60i. Correct?

If so, I don’t understand why. It seems to me that, if you can do overcranking in HD, then
it should be snap in SD…..?

Over/undercranking is only allowed in 720p mode, which is an entirely progressive mode. 1080 is recorded in an interlaced system, and so is 480. 720 is all-progressive, all-the-time, so varying the frame rate is easy to do in 720.

You can get overcranking and undercranking in DV mode if you use the dub-to-tape feature; shoot your offspeed clip in 720p mode, then dub down from the card to the tape and it’ll preserve the slow-mo or fast-mo nature of the footage.

    Barry –

    Thanks.

One other query about this camera.

Can I name a project at the beginning of a shoot and have that name
attach itself to all the MXF files? In what I’ve done so far, I end up with
all these bizarre numbered files in my Avid and no way to track what
project they are associated with. I have an SD card installed, and thought
this was a rather simple matter…but the logic of it has escaped me thusfar.

    Thanks for any guidance.

Great article, Barry. I wish we could simply enter the name directly into the camera. Also, in your explanation of the probability of the same number coming up twice, I believe the chance is 1 in 12,960,000 (10x10x10x10x36x36). For example 0001AB is different from 0002AB.
