  • How do I applied multiple AudioSuite Plugins to a track?

Posted by Milton Hockman on January 25, 2007 at 5:25 pm

    HI,
I am using AudioSuite for the first time in XPress Pro. I added a de-esser to my audio track and want to add reverb now. HOw do i do that without canceling the de-esser. I have not tried to do it yet, but fear the reverb will overwrite the de-esser (kind of like when you don’t hold the alt key when adding a new effect to a clip.)

any words of wisdom on this one? thanks. Because what if later down the line i want to take off the de-esser but keep the reverb. I can’t step in and out of audio tracks right?

Well, you can’t nest audio effects. You have 2 options:

    1. Mixdown the de-esser effect then apply the reverb.

    2. Drag your source clip to your Audiosuite tool. It should highlight the Master Clip button and the audio tracks available on that master clip. If it doesn’t automatically highlight them, click the Master Clip button and select your master clip from the drop down menu to the left of Master Clip. Choose your de-esser effect from the menu, tweak to taste. In your Audio suite tool you will now be able to choose what drive to render your effect to, what bin to put your rendered file in, etc… Set these then hit the Render button in your AudioSuite. It will render the de-esser effect, create a mixdown, then put that mixdown and a copy of the effect in the bin you chose. You can now cut the mixdown into your sequence or you can drag it to your AudioSuite tool and apply the reverb there. It’s basically the same as doing a mixdown in the timeline but gives you more options and control over your master clip, as well as automatically saves the effect for you.

    Your choice!

    Hi –

This is such a glaring weakness that Avid really should fix.
IMHO, it is crazy that you have to jump through hoops just to
nest a number of audio effects….

    I agree completely!!

Avid needs to fix this, and they need to give us the ability to select multiple clips in a bin and do a global levels/pan adjustment. Then overhaul their effects editor. Then lower their prices. 🙂
