I just got started on FCP about two months ago…and have found it to be a much more intuitive system to cut on. Takes some time to overcome your Avid-centric learned behaviors, but once you do, it just feels faster. I agree that the log/capture needs work, but my guess is that it will get that improvement. If you are a Mac-person to begin with (as I am) FCP will be very easy to master, as the app relies heavily on the basic GUI and Finder features, rather than app-specific keystrokes, etc…

    Just my 2-cents…

    Steve –

Thanks for the tip. I’ll check to make sure someone didn’t mistakenly sve it that way. So often you just drag this stuff in assuming it’s correct!

    Hi –

It was about 800px high by 600 wide. I did size it down and that solved the problem. It just seems like FCP should have a way of sensing an image that’s too big and alerting you…other than crashing! Maybe there is a SOP on this and I’ve just missed it – that’s very possible.

    Thanks

    Hi –

Went online and ordered the book yesterday! I’ll just have to take it as it comes, I guess.

One more question though; am I crazy or are all the buttons in FCP REALLY tiny? On the 23″
monitor I’m using the “mark in” and “mark out” buttons (and many others) are miniscule. While
I’ll end up using keyboard shortcuts for most (with time) it just seems unnecessary to make them
so small. Strikes me that buttons you use more frequently, or have a “higher purpose” should be
sized up a bit, though I doubt that fits in with Mac’s GUI design philosophy…

    Hi –

Thanks so much for the good advice. I’ll check out the books and the posts.
I think it’s going to take me about a year to stop trying to scroll the pointer through the timeline!
