Then the “Use Previews” function will actually do something for you.

Right click on the 2nd clip in the project bin and choose modify-audio and set the number of tracks to 0. Now that clip will only import as video. You can change it back anytime.

Yeah bring one of the offending clips in through Media Browser from both the card itself and the copy on the drobo. See if you can get any clean version of it into the editor first.

I’m pretty grateful that Apple has been dragging their feet on the mac mini refresh as it forced my hand to buy a new iMac this past fall and I couldn’t be happier. Granted the mac mini wouldn’t have been a main edit box, but the iMac certainly can handle anything I bring to it.

If you have your scopes open try closing them. They can be buggy to the overall operation at times.

I can’t agree with you on Prelude being a wasted of time. Bridge will see P2 and MXF file structures but not AVCHD. I’ve mapped green yellow and red to the label functions in Bridge to easily mark things and sort them into Smart Collections. But that’s usually for artwork only. Marking/logging through Prelude is the most time-saving thing I’ve added to my workflow in years.

And why not mark all your clips in Prelude and then just send the selects to PPro?

I would suggest you take the shots into SpeedGrade to brighten the green. Very quick ways in there to get a keyable background. Plus you might be surprised at what you can come with just with color change.
