hey, sacci,
hope you got the Behringer to talk to FCP ok.

i’ve been trying to get it to work, too.

i thought it would be just plug n play,
but i had to “teach” the Behringer what i wanted each fader to do.
(like control a fader in FCP, as if that wasn’t obvious!)

so i;m up and running on a rudimentary level.

next i;d like to assign a button on the Behringer to toggle keyframe recording in FCP,
but that;s beyond me at the moment.

have you mastered it yet?
any idea how to do what i want?
any other cool things you have discovered? (sorry, i hate those all-encompasing questions, but i had to ask 🙂 )

try swapping the buses and see what happens.

if it;s a WS mask in particular you want,
i prefer to create on in Photoshop, and place that on a tack above the other clips.
makes it easier to re-frame the shots, if needed.

2 lengths of slug, cropped of moved in to place, will do the same,
but it;s not as neat looking 🙂

here’s how you do it in FCP:

after you’ve gathered all your stills,
drag them all (or the bin they are contained in) to a new timeline.
apply the de-interlace filer.
drag them all back to a NEW bin,
batch export.

in the past, on slower systems,
ive had trouble (crashes) dragging a huge amount of clips from the timeline to a bin.
solution:
copy and paste instead.

i cant comment on whether the *quality* of the de-interlace would be better in FCP or PS, though

i understand your process,
but not sure i quite understand what you’re describing as the result.

however, i *suspect* that your audio might not have reel numbers.

give your audio clips reel#s,
and try again.

i think i had some cookie malfunction last time, that;s why it didn’t go thru.

i never sent any plugins,
i sent a list of some plugins for FCP

FCP has a de-interlace filter you can use
no it wont slow your shot down.
it will do what i said,
reduce the number if individual images you see per second,
pulling it more into line with a film frame rate

If you Do simply want to slow the shot,
try Modify Menu > Speed
& look up “speed” in the manual.

Dave, 25fps VIDEO does not look like film!

it still has 50 interlaced fields every second,
and that is one of e the main factors it it looking like video.
as opposed to the 24 or 25 Progressive frames of film

Moth Man is instinctively on the right track thinking about “Slowing down”
but what we’re really talking about is reducing the number of images seen every second.

Moth Man,
a simple de-interlace filter will go along way to getting you where you want.
that’ll give you 25 discrete images every second.

there’s a few more tricks to getting a film look,
and you can do a lot with a bunch of individual plugins,
or you can get the Nattress package for what is ridiculously cheap.

weird thing:
i’m pretty sure DID write a post outlining a whole bunch of freebie plugins that would help you.
did you get that?
it seems to have been removed?

yes there are HEAPS of free SFX in STP.

plus there are a few in iMovie

to access them you have to control click on the app itself, and “show package contents”
dig down into resources/sound effects.
they’re all MP3s,
so need to be converted to AIFFs before you can use them in FCP.

i made an FCP project called SFX,
and it referenced the SoundtrackPro effects, and a AIFF copies for the iMovie ones.
you can do a lot with those.

i dont know much about P2 (correction, i dont know ANYTHING about P2!) so maybe you dont need this info…

but to do this with MM:

use MOVE mode
DONT delete unused
Base Media File Names on: CLIP NAMES

BROWSE to a location on the SAME drive the clips are already on.

when you hit OK,
the clips will be moved from the folder they’re in to a new folder:

Nominated Location/Media/Project Name

and the files names will adopt the clip names in the process.

you wont get, or need, a new project.
the clips will go offline in your current project, but then reconnect.
warning: clips already in the timeline may nor reconnect,
and you may need to reconnect them manually, one by one.

select the offline sequnce, or bin of clips, then open MM.

use “Create Offline:” mode (pull-down menu)
select “Delete unused”
un-tick everything else
Base Media File Names on: Clip Names

in some versions of FCP this is broken,
and it cant trim offline clips.
it works for me in V5.04
