yes, but the thing is that at then moment, all the media is DV, as they’re cutting off-line.

even if they had the HDV & the HDCAM in the timeline, it wouldnt be too easy to figure in the browser:

you;d have to make a new bin,
copy or drag all your timeline clips to there (so you had them with in/outs)
sort by type, delete all your transitions generators, graphics, etc.
then sort by codec.
and even then you wouldnt have any handles on the clips that had transition on them.

(although now i read your post again, i don’t think this is what you’re suggesting… still… it;s all DV)

i think they want a quick way to first delete all the HDV footage.

it would be great if you could do an intelligent timeline search, looking for just one flavour of footage,
or, as this is all in DV res, all clips of a certain reel#.
but you can’t
so here’s what i’d do:

copy the sequence, place it in a new project
tools menu: create master clips
figure out some way to separate the HDV from the HDCam shots in the browser.
gotta be reel# i guess, as everything is still DV.
select all the HDV shots in the browser, and make offline.
timeline HDV clips also go offline.

now do a Media Manage on the sequence
chose RECOMPRESS, and choose an HD flavour
tick Delete unused,
and there;s your media usage.

if you dont have any HD option in hte recompress list you may need to download some drivers & codecs from blackmagic or kona.
otherwise do a Media Manage without recomporessing, and do the maths youself.

seriously. given the time spent figuring this out, and up-resing the HDV,
would you just as well off to capture everything, HDV included, at the facility?

the problem (or part of it) is that you are working between 2 projects.
stay within the one project, and it *might* work.

tom knows more than i do about the particular quirks of nesting, and what you have to do to make this work.
but i know it wont work between projects

check your reel numbers in the reel column.

for what ever reason there may be some clips that don’t have a reel#
MM wont trim those clips.
(MM believes they dont come from a tape source, and may be the only instances of that media in the universe)

in the short term if you copy the sequence into a new project you’ll be able to media manage OK.
being in a new project, the copied sequence will have no ties to the master clips at all.

the answer is NONE, im affraid.

you can really only import a bounce of your audio tracks,
or if its a very simple timeline in your DAW, just manually re-create it in FCP.

media manager will not work for this.

it WILL work if you have trimmed or shortened the clips.
then you can use Media Manager and delete unused as Kevin suggests.

but Media Manager does this thing…
if it sees 2 clips that share a frame, or even SHARE AN ADJACENT FRAME it will combine both clips into one file.
So if you capture a tape, use DV start stop & makes subclips,
a media manage will just copy the master file, and give it the name of your first subclip
nothing else.
you could media manage every SECOND clip, and it would work.
but to get all the subs, you;d have to manage all the even numbered ones in one operation,
then all the odd numbered ones.
not going to happen!

the way to do it is to use BATCH EXPORT

Batch Export only works from the browser, not the timeline.
select al the item you want to export, or the folder they are in,
File Menu > Batch Export

make self contained, use in/out

this will create new, self contained files which you;d then import back into FCP.
you’re then free to delete the original; file.
