you can do almost anything with a single keystroke if you use QuicKeys.

i;ve started using it, and it;s great for repetitive tasks such as this.

if you need to change in/outs,

select the clip, go to modify menu / remove subclip limits.

it’ll retain the name of the sub.

OR

option apple f will pull up the source FILE,
and you can start all over.

as to how you can find the original source CLIP,
i have to admit i dont know.

open the file in Cinema Tools, (comes with FCP)
and conform it to whatever framerate you want.

(conform button is on right of screen after you open the file)

it’s a simple instruction to the QT file to play art a different rate,
no rendering involved

we get that…

we’ve got 4 G5s accessing shared media on an Xsan system.

project files are also on the XSan,
and if one machine shuts down for whatever reason, while FCP is one on the others,
the other FCP stations cant save their files.

our workaround is to save-as to the desktop,
then drag to the Xsan projects folder and replace the old one.

what you didn’t try was:

select the SEQUENCE in the browser,
Modify>Make Sequence Clips Independent.
you can right click on it, too for that matter.

if your editors don’t want to make their sequence clips independent,
copy the sequence,
paste into a new project.
Media Manage.

can you re-format the firestore? (seems crazy if you cant)

other than that the easiest way to do this is to string the clips back together in FCP, and export as self contained files.
reference files will work, but it;s just not quite as rock-solid, in that there’s a chance you could lose one of the original files, and then the reference is broken.
if this is a quick turn-around thing, then ref files should be OK

after export, double check that the exports have the correct TC and reel#

then multiclip away

i agree with everything said here.
(even the contradictory stuff, nick?)

already pointed out, is that cutting with the existing material will cause MAJOR slow-downs in the online.

but i thought id chime in with a workflow suggestion

“you have to put each set of clips [created by the TC breaks] into a sequence to view the whole tape, and then match frame to start to cut.”

you can load the sequence of clips into the viewer,
then edit them to the timeline by holding APPLE when you make the edit.
if you did a normal F9 or F10 edit, you;d get a “nest” (read up on nests in the manual if you dont know about them yet)
but Apple F9 or Apple F10 will cut the CONTENTS of the laded sequence across.

yes, and had something very identifiable in that reel name – not us the letter “a” for instance.
like (HDV) or ^ or something.

and as you point out, every time you make a subclip, you;d have to remember to include the reel# in the name.

roll on intelligent timeline search!
