  • Automating clip selection in viewer

    Hi list,

I am trying to scrub through many hours of footage and making 3 -second long selects.

Would anyone know of a way I can hotkey the action of marking an in at the current frame in the viewer, advancing three seconds, marking and out and inserting the clip timeline.

Also is it possible for me to do this in multiple viewers or just the primary viewer.

    Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

    Peace,

    Kevin

    Shift > Right Arrow x 3, Mark O
    Should work on multiple Viewers.

that’ll give you duration of 3.01, you’d need to hit left arrow once with no shift if you need 3 seconds exaclty.

Correct! Me of all people should’ve caught that. I think the poster wants to do this all with a single key stroke. Simply cannot be done.

Hopefully no one who owns your book saw that, or else you might lose some street cred. Oh, drat, I have your book. Good thing I’m in no position to give or recieve street cred.

Thanks for your prompt responce. I guess the answer is it can’t be done with a single keystroke.

Can I get any closer to a single keystroke than manually marking the ins and outs?

Also is there any way I can copy to the timeline from both a primary and a new viewer. Right now I am aple to “p” into the timeline from the primary but I have to drag and insert from any other viewers. With several hundred clips it gets a little hard on the wrists sometimes?

    Many thanks again

    – Press i key to mark in
    – Press Tab key
    – Enter “3.” and hit return key

That will give you a marked duration of 3 secs. It isn’t possible to use the F9, F10 etc KB shortcuts from secondary viewers.

If you really are doing this hundreds of times then you could always look into using a macro program:

you can do almost anything with a single keystroke if you use QuicKeys.

i;ve started using it, and it;s great for repetitive tasks such as this.

    cheers,

I didn’t know Quickeys would work inside the FCP interface. This cuold well be the answer.

    I will try it out.
