it was DV,

i cant remember the shot exactly:

either some text (basic text generator)
or a re-frame, without a blow up.

monitoring on an external.

it was noticeably worse – slightly softer – than the surrounding shots before we rendered.
that’s how i noticed.

i don’t trust that “Full” mode

i;ve seen the quality improve after a render,

(DV media on a Dual2 G5)

so i set “Full” as renderable in “Render All”

there may be some connector to turn the DVI out into a video signal.

i use the s-video out on my Powerbook quite a bit.
but it;s not a true video out.
it;s not interlaced, which can be a good thing:
with the show i’m doing now, we’ll be going to film eventually.
the S-video out gives us a kind of “instant film-look”

canvas out of FCP is pretty lo-res, though.

control clicking in the “tracks” column is FCP 4.5 and lower.

in FCP5 you select the clips and open the “Clip Settings” window.
you’d think i;d know where that is…

try control clicking on the clips, or look under the FILE or MODIFY menus.

that’s a feature request!

pretty sure XML2text will do what you need: “Get Clip level Markers out of a Sequence and lift them to Sequence level markers”
not sure it’ll be quicker than doing it yourself.

cut clip into seq.
export XML
doctor it in XML2text,
re-import to FCP

if you have a lot to do, or if this is a way you work regularly it’d be a good thing to get.
otherwise, cut your clip in to the sequence first, then add markers.

no way to add a marker and have it be a chapter marker automatically.
or even turn it into one with a shortcut.
that’s bad design on FCP’s part.

a note on audio track ganging:

you;re mixing with a STEREO clip.
that’s not ganging

i wish FCP had track ganging.
but it doesnt.

on day, perhaps..

so avid has no way to tag a clip as stereo and have both sides react as one?
that;s bad too.

now to really earn that cheque!…

when in list view, you can sort by more than one column.
in fact its desirable to…

first sort by reel, then hold SHIFT and sort by media start.

all your media is now sorted in to the order you shot it in.

you’ll find reel column used down the end.
don’t know why… it belongs at the front
so drag it there.
