There is a special FIrewire NDF Device control preset for FCP. Try using this device control preset and see if that has any effect after your clip is captured and the computer restarted.

We’ve been using the Aurora Pipe Pro and Pipe Studio in all our edit rooms and ETT has been 100% accurate for us also. We output to Digibeta a dozen shows a week, but also output four to five programs to BetaSP every week. All ETT’s are spot on. Insert works perfectly too.
I’d try reinstalling the latest AJA drivers and checking your offsets. Do a test capture of some vis timecoded material and calibrate your deck settings.Michael Alberts

The edit to tape buttons haven’t worked since v2 as far as I can remember. The simple workaround is to drag the sequence icon from the browser over the ETT window and drop on the pop-up Assemble button (or Insert, Preview). I probably outputs three or four programs a week using this method. All are spot on frame accurate.
Can’t speak personally as to the 720p issue. However, my partner just completed a feature in FCP in which the entire project was captured and output via Kona2 and FCP 5. It took a few AJA driver updates, but the Batch Capture feature was finally accurate.What’s your exact problem with 720p in FCP 5?

I’m not sure what the hang up is, I listen to iTunes music/radio all day while editing. I generally have my system audio set to output through my Aurora Pipe Studio card as well as FCP. However, while digitizing I set the system audio to play out the internal speakers. I’ve never noticed a conflict in the 3-4 years I’ve been doing it this way. I like to listen to KCRW, the local public radio station here in LA while I edit.
What type of rig do you have set up? Are you using a capure card or mixer? Core audio should have no problem plaing multiple sources at the same time.Michael Alberts

Digital Heaven makes some great plug ins for only $10 each. I find them invaluable as they make up for gaps in FCP’s toolset.

I would go with Dan’s first workflow option and take the t.c. and SDI out and send it to the second Dbeta deck. Just tell the second deck to accept the Ext t.c. signal. We do this all the time from the Dbeta in our machine room to the BetaSP just below it.
Walter, we built a simple RS-422 patch panel in our machine room that is fed by three other rooms. We just patch who gets control at any given time. The parts cost me something like $30 at Pac Radio in LA. It has room for 10 RS-422 ports.Michael Alberts

The process is fairly involved with FCP. You want to make sure you follow all the steps properly to insure a proper Cut List. You really should read the Cinema Tools manual which goes through the steps in some detail. If you have problems or specific questions arise just post back here at the Cow.

Many of the earlier Superdrives were not able to read DVD+R disks. If you have a G4 with a Superdrive that might be the case. As for the VOB file try using DVDxDV. For the VHS tape, the inexpensive way to get that into your system would be to purchase a A/D coverter like the Canopus ADVC 100. This box is useful if you’re want to convert the analog to DV. If you’re working at a higher, uncompressed rate than any of the third party video cards should work for you (Aurora, AJA, Decklink).

The Witness Protection filter in BCC3 will do everything Joe’s filters does plus it will motion track the face for you. This means you don’t have to do the tedious task of frame by frame tracking. I use Joe’s filter in pinch and only if it’s a quick shot or two.

By the way. It took me minute to write out the explination of how to do this, but it only took 20 seconds to choose Help and type in Chapter Markers into the search field in the online manual.
