November 26, 2022 at 1:38 am in reply to: Simple Ken Burns style zoom and hold plugin for fcpxDylan Bates (Final Cut Bro) just released the perfect plugin for you. He’s already updated it a few times in the past week with some fixes and user suggestions. Bonus, it’s also on sale right now.
I’ve been using a smattering of free and paid plugins that never quite did everything I needed. This one plugin now covers 90% of my needs.

April 24, 2022 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Is it possible to Convert .MOV to MP4 with no loss in qualityBeen using this trick for years. As long as you encoded the .mov with the h.264 codec it should work. There was a time not so long ago that all h.264 .mov files exported from FCP would not import into PremierePro. It simply refused. If you just change the .mov to .mp4 PremierePro would instantly recognize and import those files. This is true of many “smart” monitors as well. We’d send .mov’s to clients for playback on their “smart” monitors in their booth at various trade shows. If the monitor wouldn’t recognize the file we’d instruct them to change the file name to .mp4. Works every time. It’s just a wrapper. The internal codec is what’s important.

March 16, 2022 at 12:39 am in reply to: Is there a way to record live camera feed into FCP edit window like audio?I second the Softron MovieRecorder. I’ve been using it for at least five years now. It’s an amazing piece of software. You can upgrade to their hardware based systems depending on how many streams you need to record. I use it mainly for live editing in FCP. Once the stream starts you can start editing in FCP after about 3-4 seconds.

More than likely he told him what the procedure is for exporting subtitles as Open Caption titles. It’s basically the same as closed captions with the exception of one check box.
The first step is to Share/Master File. In the Settings choose your codec (ProRes or H.264). In the Roles tab pick your Roles. Click the blue icon that says “Captions” for the video track role. From there select the drop down next to the “Burn in captions” option and select which of your captions tracks you want burned in. It’s that simple.
Of course these are now burned-in subs as that’s what the OP asked for. The end user now has no option to turn them on or off.

For future edits you may want to consider using Frame.io. You can have clients type notes into your uploaded video on the Frame.io site. You then download those comments directly into FCP as a connected clip. You can then break down that connected clip and have the notes flow down directly as connected comments. Those comments will stick with your edit thanks to the magnetic timeline until such time as you might trim that entire section of your timeline. This works like a charm and I try to get all my clients to use this simple feature.

ScreenFlow from Telestream is only $99. Would that be in your budget? We use it for computer demos all the time. Works great with FCP for editing. Has lots of great features for zoom control and mark ups.

Annoying isn’t it. It’s been like that as long as I can remember. You just have to get used to changing it manually. I switch projects a half dozen times a day; SD, HD, 720, 1080, 23.98, 29.97, 24 etc. You just have to remember to manually switch the View/Video Playback setting.

You’ll want to rent or purchase a Red Rocket card for your MacPro. In this case time really is money. Which is cheaper, your time or the cost of a Red Rocket?
