Red transcode for final cut pro
Hello all,
I have approximately 50hours of Red 4k footage that I would like to transcode to pro res 422 proxy for the non native offline stage of my edit, we’ll be going online for color-grading.
This is my first job with a red workflow.
I’m currently using Redcine x to transcode the media and this seems like an incredibly long process: am currently on a 1:5 ratio for transcoding.
As always time and space are of the essence, is there a quicker way to transcode? How can I optimize my settings to gain in speed?
Is transcoding red always such a long process?Thanks for your time and help,

PS: I accidentally used an old copy of red rushes to transcode a few rushes and although the image was slightly yellow the time it took was tiny compared to redcine. Is this quite normal?

The faster the CPU, the faster the transcode… I’ve not investigated other apps for the job, but doubt there’s a big difference in speed from one to another.

You’ll want to rent or purchase a Red Rocket card for your MacPro. In this case time really is money. Which is cheaper, your time or the cost of a Red Rocket?
