First, make sure they are Chapter markers. When you add a Marker to you timeline make sure you check the “Chapter Marker” button. Secondly, when you export the Final Cut Pro file as either a refrence file or stand alone make sure you select the “Markers/DVD Studio Pro” markers from the export window.

It depends. If you export from FCP to Compressor you tie up your FCP system for the entire time it’s exporting. Meaning, you can’t do any work while this slow process occurs. The other option is to export a refrence file and encode in Compressor in the backgroung while you get back to editing. Depending on the complexity of the timeline this should take very long. It really depends on your situation. I almost never export from FCP to Compressor. There have been sync issues in the past with this workflow also. Those may have been fixed with 5.02.

Beter yet, why not have the 16mm negative cut and just do an HD telecine from the cut neg? You’ve got the t.c. and key code burned into the pic. Did you import the Flex files and run though Cinema Tools? This will give you a quick Cut List if you did. Otherwise, it’s a manual process to produce a neg cut list.

If the recipient has QT 7 installed I would go with H.264. Best looking compression codec around these days. Encoding time is a hog however.

Qmaster can also be used to cluster many of your computers together and used in conjunction with Compressor. Someday FCP might even get on board.

There appears to be a bug in FCP 5 and 5.02 Media Manager that effectively limits the functionality of MM’s “delete unused footage” to footage that is online. If you footage offline, i.e. not on the drives, the MM process doesn’t work. You can view some lengthy threads regarding this in the past month here on the Cow. This was a bug back in FCP v3 but was fixed with an update. The 5.02 update has not yet fixed this problem. FCP 4 and 4.5 do not have this limitation. For this reason I keep a separate drive on my system with FCP 4.5. I online quite a few shows for broadcast. The client usually sends me the project file which I MM. They also ship the taped from which to capture. This would no longer be possible with FCP 5. Ouch, that would really hurt our company if we couldn’t online.

my bad, I misread your first post. I thought you were talking about anolog audio levels.
Sadly, the answer to your original question is no. On the Avid your tape log info stores all that info, but there is no such file created in FCP. Sorry.Michael Alberts
