What format of video file do thay want: MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, etc. The list goes on. Just find out the exact specs of the file type they want and post back here.

You might try BitVice Helper to mux the audio into a transport stream.

I’ve several editors I know call me and ask me about this problem SPECIFICALLY!!! They start off by saying “All my clips I’m capturing are coming in a subclips at twice the length. What’s up?” My first question to them is always “Are you capturing 720P via HDSDI” The answer is always yes. No body can believe it’s a major bug like that that has remained for so long. I always tell them the same thing you just posted, Use the Feedback feature in FCP and let Apple know. They had to have received hundreds of complaints about this by now.
As users, all we can do is keep posting to the feedback page and making noise on forums like this. Boy, the MLB Playoffs on Fox really got screwed by this bug. Not a good situation I heard.Michael Alberts

6 streams of 10bit PAL. That woudl be 25MB x 6 = 150MB sustained read speed. Add in some CPU overhead. What are your speed readings on your RAID? Remember, you need to look at the Sustained rate, not peak.
Apple was able to do nine steams of HD due to the fact that it was DVCProHD at 100mb/sec per steam. That’s only 9x8MB/sec coming off a Xserve RAID.

Qmaster, which comes with a standard FCP 5, DVDSP 4 or FCP Studio install will allow you to create a cluster for faster render times in Shake, Maya and other Unix apps. It also allows for faster encoding or transcoding from within Compressor. We’ve got four G5 machines set up in a simple cluster with our server acting as the cluster controller. It just rips though those MPEG-2 encodes now. H.264 encoding is almost bearable now.
As Kevin mentioned above, FCP still does not take advantage of this feature. Some day possibly. It’s not for a lack of asking. Heck, FCP still can’t even do background rendering, even though OS X if fully multi threaded.

And besides, isn’t a RAM file just a data pointer to the actual streaming file ona remote Real Player server. The RAM file is usualy 100k in size since it doesn’t have the actual media contained within it.

If, after deleting Media, and selecting the option for “Leave In Trash”, you can always drag the media clip out of the trash and put it back into your Capture Scratch folder. This media file can then be reimported to FCP.
Secondly, if you really, really wanted a file you deleted from your projects browser, you can always open an older project from the Auto Save bin and drag it to your current project.

There are some Apple benchmarks on the Apple site above. The real improvement will come with the Quad machine when it ships in a month or so. GPU speeds on the new graphics cards will help Motion out a lot. Renders will be quicker and the machine will probably feel snappier overall.
