  • Clips loosing Time Code after shutting down

Something very odd is going on. I am capturing tapes into FCP 4.5 via a firewire drive. I will capture around 7 clips from these DV Cam tapes, they will appear to have captured fine with normal non-drop frame time code, just as I logged, just as the tape seems to be. Then, I’ll quit out of FCP, shut down the computer, and when I come back to the project, some or most of the clips show up as having 00:00:00;00 (drop frame) as their Media Start time code and their duration as their end. So a bunch of clips will show up with this new identical, yet inaccurate, drop frame time code, but with the accurately logged content or media. I’ve tried two different decks. I’ve logged and then batch captured by manually typing the time code into the bin, logging and capturing with out closing the Log Capture window, even with the Capture Now button…NOTHING FIXES this problem. I’ve been capturing 100 of hours of tape with the same settings and not come across this problem before.
I am at a complete loss. No one seems to have any idea what the problem is. I would appreciate any help.
    Thank you.

That sounds very odd. Have you tried trashing prefs?

Yes. I’ve tried trashing the prefs…Someone recently tol us that DV Cam tends to be drop frame. This tape seems to have been set as non-drop frame…Could this be related?

DV tends to be drop frame (that’s why the FCP DV NTSC setup reverts to drop frame). DV Cam is selectable, it depends on the shooter.

What kind of deck(s) are you capturing from?

DV can be either DF or NDF. Depends on how the cam/deck was set when it was shot.

Remember that I tried from two different decks. The first was DSR 15OOA, the second was a Sony DSR-25.

I understand, but most consumer dv cameras (not dv cam cameras) don’t have the option of drop vs non drop. I was just informing Melissa that dv is inherently a drop frame format. DV Cam is selectable, which as you and I both said, depends on who set it up.

Okay, do you have a capture card that you can bring in this material over component and rs-422? Where did the source tape come from? What camera or deck? Check your settings on your decks and make sure that you can read both VITC and LTC.

Pardon my ignorance, but, how do I find out if I have the kind of Card that you’re asking me about?

🙂 Do you have an Aurura, Decklink, AJA Kona? Any of those sound familiar? Look in the back of your machinetowards the top where the PCI slots are. On the bottom you should see two cables coming out that go to your computer monitors. Are there any cards above that with a bunch of hoses/cables coming out of it?
