Just a note.. AAF’s, which is the new and improved format, has no limit – too bad FCP doesn’t support it yet! I believe Automatic Duck has software for it.

Perhaps FCS 3 will add that ability.. whenever that decides to show itself!

June 19, 2009 at 3:13 am in reply to: Who uses ‘broadcast safe’?

Here is another easy work flow you can consider…

At the end of your project, make a nest of all the video and apply the broadcast safe effect to the nest – then all is covered in one easy step.

For someone who seems to have lots of issue with logic, you seem to lack it in your workflow for color correction. Logically it should be the last step in your edit, not the first or middle. Would you do an final audio mix and then add audio effects afterwards? Definitely not…

    But to each their own!

But I do like your idea of having some global limiter instead… maybe this should be on the hardware side like in the AJA card or whatever…

That is what I have been hearing – but to confirm, I am not talking about the “playing fps” just the “FPS”.

    Thanks for your help!

May 11, 2009 at 8:22 pm in reply to: Upgrade to FCP Studio on G5?

We actually load/ edit SD material in ProRes on a Dual G5 system, so that is not exactly accurate. We are using Kona LHe cards.

But as always, if you can afford faster system that never hurts!

April 30, 2009 at 3:51 pm in reply to: ProRes for SD Beta SP?

ProRes makes sense if you are coming from a much higher bandwidth like DigiBeta or Betacam. ProRes ends up being 2 to 5x smaller than 8 or 10 bit uncompressed SD.

DV files are much smaller and the quality is lower so you would gain nothing by loading ProRes.

What system are you on? Intel quad? 8 core?

Are there any issues with exporting or transcoding to other formats like h264?

    Thanks much!!!

December 19, 2008 at 4:34 pm in reply to: 4:3 to 16:9 FCpro plugin

I think what he is asking is something that does that thing they do on TNT where the middle 30% is the same but the sides are stretched to fill out. So it isn’t just blowing it up, but more of a dynamic fill and you lose no part of the image.

That being said, I have never heard of a plugin that does that. Doesn’t mean that it isn’t out there though!

    Sorry!

December 18, 2008 at 11:00 pm in reply to: NEED HELP FAST!! Importing stills into FCP 6

Do you know the resolution of the pictures? If they are less than HD dimensions (1920×1080), you will be blowing it up alot to match size.

Look at your file info and see if that helps.

Otherwise, photos definitely need to be rendered in the timeline for them to look their best.
