    Hey Herd!

I am running into a strange issue with frame rates on DVCPro HD clips. Here is the summary:

_ shooting on Panasonic cameras at 24/30 (59.94)
    – Loading footage from tape through SDI/ AJA LH cards from Panasonic AJ-1400
    – e, we notice when looking at clips directly in Quicktime that the famerate is listed at numbers slightly off like 29.92, 29.96 etc. (see attached pic)

    – in FCP the same clips indicate they are 29.97 in the item properties, and seem to play back fine.
    – it seems to be random.. tested this by reloading clips that were originally listed as 29.97 in QT
    – loading to Avid Unity partitions normally but have tested with local drives too.
    – also have tested loading via Firewire with same results

QUESTION: Is this just some QT bug or can this be a real issue with the files?

    System specs are:
    Power PC Dual 2.6 ghz
    4 GB ram
    OSX 10.4.11
    QT 7.5.5
    AJA 6.0.3

Don’t ever trust QT when it comes to these numbers. QT is telling you what rate it is playing back, and it is never rock steady. FCP is the only place you should look up the frame rate speed.

I trust the clip info in the Browser far more than QT info. It can be unreliable.

    Have a wonderful day.

That is what I have been hearing – but to confirm, I am not talking about the “playing fps” just the “FPS”.

    Thanks for your help!
