Yes, the news is that you will need a computer with a motherboard compatible with Thunderbolt.

And the future for this connection is for flash drives – they can work at speeds far faster than the old school and will be the “portable” option. LaCie has announced their version already..

Plus you get 2 ports for the price of one space being that it will work for both drives and monitors.

I would not be surprised if there are new towers out around NAB or whenever they decide to finally announce the rumored new FCP.

Yeah, just go buy a used Mac mini and you will get better results and keep your sanity.

Don\’t think it is possible, but any reason you can\’t use the droplets? The only time I have seen an issue with this is when you are on diff version of compressor.

I would definitely try to make your project smaller and DEFINITELY have it running off a local drive. Any way you can delete old edits – these will eat up space especially when large – will help. Perhaps you can save a new version of the project that is smaller.

    Good luck!

How large is your project file? Once you start getting over 100mb, systems can get a bit wonky…

Actually did not.. and it just came up again recently.. I wonder if Apple laces screen recordings with something so people can steal stuff? Seems a bit silly and would make the screen recording useless..

Let me know if you figure it out!

Great blog posts! Thanks as always…
I had a feeling that outputting may be an issue. I find Avids to have issues in general with outputting HD. I am sure we will check it out here for ourselves once we get the upgrade later this year. Hope we can all unify with ProRes!

February 28, 2010 at 2:52 am in reply to: Loosing renders in FCP 7.0.1

I am a bit late responding on this, but what kind of storage are you using?

I work at a facility that uses Unity for shared storage and we had lots of problems with losing renders until we updated the Fibre Manager software to the latest version. Now – never happens any more.

Perhaps you had a similar problem?
