It will not be possible as the SD card will only see SD signals. The only way to go about it will be if you’re down converting via the camera (not sure if that’s possible).

Just to add on. You don’t have to do this when using After Effects 6.5 if you’ve installed the Blackmagic drivers (after installing After Effects 6.5) as we modify the pref files for you. This does not happen with After Effects 7.0 as yet but we will do so in in subsequent driver updates

Check your Blackmagic DeckLink preferences and ensure that “Black Video Output to Deck in Capture” is disabled.

Hi Jeff,

What version of our drivers do you have now?

Delete the file “com.blackmagic-design.BlackmagicDeckControl.plist” that is located in ~/Library/Preferences/

Also look in the folder /Library/Preferences and see if you have the file called “com.blackmagic-design.DeckLinkPrefsPanel.plist”. If so, delete that as well. See if this fixes the problem.

If not:

Create another user account with admin rights, log into that and see if the same thing happens.

Hi Matt,

There are a couple of reasons why this is not possible.

1) We’ve received numerous reports of poor performance using SATA cards in G4s. The 33MHz PCI slot on the G4 will not be fast enough to provide decent performance for the playback of uncompressed HD.

2) When you add a DeckLink card, you place an even heavier load on the shared PCI bus in the G4. You’ll simply run out of bandwidth to do any uncompressed HD work. This is why the G5 and the new PCIe G5s are much better for uncompressed HD work.

3) Playing uncompressed HD and doing down conversion is a fairly hefty job. The G4 does not have the grunt to do this.

Hi Glen,

There is real time down conversion on capture. You just select it in the “Input” drop down menu in the “HDTV Up/Down Converter” section of the Blackmagic DeckLink Preferences. Even though the E-E output of the card while capturing will still be in HD, the captured video clip is in SD.

Hi,

The E-E output of the card when you’re digitising does not down convert. However, once you’ve captured the clip and play it out through Blackmagic Deck Control or Final Cut Pro, the HD video can be down converted.
