O.k., system has been working fine for the 6 months I’ve had card installed. Was working fine this a.m., then after lunch break, opened FCP 4.5 project I’d been working on, and captured clip loaded in to preview showed with chunks of black horizontal lines in about half the picture in my NTSC mon when still. When try and play, audio’s garbled, and nothing but mostly black static-y screen. But…

the sequence I’d been working on plays and looks fine.

So, quit, repaired permissions, restarted. Checked all settings, but nothing had been changed or been done since taking a lunch break, and still same thing.

Checked other projects that had played captured clips fine an hr before, same thing.
Only clips loaded in to preview do it. Playing back seq’s displays o.k.

Again, nothing changed except quiting FCP, and re opening project half hr later.

    Here’s info:

G4 DMirror Doors, 1.25 DP, OS 10.3.8, 2 Gigs RAM, DeckLink Extreme, Terrabyte (SCSI & SATA)

Gonna trash prefs, but doubtful that’ll do anything.

Thanks for any thoughts. I’ve got stills of the screen if it helps.

    Hi,

[pSquared] “Gonna trash prefs, but doubtful that’ll do anything.”

When you trash the prefs, please follow the instructions listed here:

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

I would recommend FCP Rescue for a simpler ‘one click’ solution but it seems that the download site is no longer available.

Let me guess. Is it a DV project and you are watching your video through the Decklink card?
Then you probably have to change “Video Playback” to “Blackmagic NTSC – 8 Bit”

Yeah, that fixed it. But, what the hell? Why all of a sudden? Hadn’t been changed,
and all other projects effected too?

    I don’t get it.

Yes, I know, but sometimes you unintentionally switch it (that’s what happens to me sometimes).
But… you’re Video Playback settings aren’t stored in your project!
You can change it, and next time you open FCP it comes back with the settings you left FCP with.
Easy Setup will store and recall the settings of Video Playback.
The bug is gone in FCP 5. The black stripes are only in the Analog output. The firewire and SDI output are clean.
