The DV codec should be easily decoded by ANY DV codec. As a matter of fact I believe the codec we use when capturing DV with the blackmagic presets in CS4 should be the Microsoft DV. Infact I just checked it, if you go to export the project the exporter defaults to MS Avi with a codec of NTSC DV.
So please make sure you are not changing those selections. Using the MS DV codec should work fine and will be ALMOST universally accepted.

Just out of curiosity what interface are you using? Are these drives hosted on the onboard motherboard sata connectors? I am assuming this motherboard has a hardware RAID controller that supports 0,1 and 5 RAID levels?
Raid 5 is nice…in fact it is my preferred RAID level. It has slightly lower write times over a RAID 3, but the read times are similar and the efficiency is better too.
So…gratz…I’m glad to see you having good success. I’m glad to see more people doing this.
My one recommendation when doing this is as follows. DENY your urge to buy the OEM type drives (they are more likely to fail). Make sure you buy good quality drives retail at the least and enterprise if possible. Even if it means buying smaller drives to fit your budget. Having the redundancy is nice, but best if the drive doesn’t fail in the first place.

When you are capturing HD…what codec are you using? Uncompressed or MJPEG? If you are doing uncompressed do you have them setup in a RAID0 configuration?

So…All the outputs (whether they are “for monitoring” or not) are independent crosslinks and are individually routable.
In other words Output 1 does not have to contain the same rout as Output 73 (for monitoring).

I would recommend trying the uncompressed codec (in a short amount) to eliminate if this is a file decode issue. I have a feeling that these applications are not properly decoding MJPEG footage. We can isolate this by doing a short uncompressed test.
Sounds like some of your other issues (aspect ratio and such) might be caused by improper settings. For example there is a big difference in encoding something letterbox and anamorphic. Anamorphic if not encode/decoded correctly will show up as 4×3 (stretched tall)

Hey there,
The reason is actually not inexplicable at all. There is a very clear reason. When CS4 launched there was (as I am sure that most of you are aware) there was no hardware support until after the launch.
When the hardware vendor support was added we worked hard for several months (with Adobe) to make the new interface work correctly. The media core part of the Adobe suite was choking our boards.
To put a point on it, the Windows side wasn’t even fully optimized and had problems on some systems. Because of this, and the time we spent working on getting the PC version working right (our then only editor on the PC), we didn’t have enough time to get the Mac version running properly. Now, after many more months the issues were corrected (with Adobe and BMD working very closely) in 4.2.
So in a sense the 4.2 update has allowed us to get the plugin interface in a good enough position to start working on the Mac version. I would expect to see one in the near future (read, a month or so).
Short answer, we didn’t drop it for no reason, and we are in a position to work on the Mac version now.

Here’s the deal on the replacement (and you probably know most of this). Any replacement for the 888 systems will be handled for cost of the part. And once we are out of those parts we are out (as we cannot manufacture more of them).
So, that said, as long as we have the part, we will be most happy to work with you to setup an exchange for it.

Try doing a repair install by going to the control panel -> add/remove applications. Click change/reinstall. Don’t uninstall the app or software, simply choose repair.
So this happens with the Direct Show filters don’t get installed for some reason and usually a repair install does the trick.

Hey all,
I’m pretty much just poaching Kristian’s post from a few days ago, but here is the basic info and reasons behind it.
The main reason is that Apple Color checks each desktop it detects for OpenGL compatibility and because the extended desktop output is not OpenGL, Color fails to launch.
Also, the way the OS enumerates the displays may sometimes cause issues which are undesirable and beyond our control. Such as the video desktop enumerates with a higher priority than the acutal graphics cards which messes up features that requires hardware acceleration from the graphics cards.
Extended desktop was first conceived many years ago so that users can have proper TV colorspace output from Photoshop and After Effects by dragging the canvases across to the “tv screen”. However, we now have proper plugins so that users can output directly from Photoshop and After Effects so the desktop feature is no longer used much.
