  • to match clips in the timeline hit the F key. it will show you the clip in the browser. Every sequence is different but in the browser it will show you when you last modifed the clip so that may help. you can also make each clip a master clip and put it in a seperate bin folder.

If you create a new sequence, set the settings for HD1080i60, drag the HDV footage into it and render, that should create the changes you need.

You can’t slow a still because there is nothing to slow. you can only resize it.

Did the nine clips all come one after the other? This would mean that something changed on a capture so that all nine came in the same way. if they were randomly captured with this problem then you need to get ahold of apple. As far as capture now is concerned you’re right in that you should do a log and batch capture. that way you know for a fact that all the clips were captured with the same settings.

if you brought it back into the same sequence that may happen. open a new project and new sequence and put the new clips into it.

Would automatic duck be able to transcode the FCP files and keep the metadata?

preview disabled means that FCP does not see the deck. Check your connections and try again. Check on the bottom of the color bars, it will probably say, no communication.

I don’t know much about iMovie but as far as the computer seeing the camera, only the camera can be attached to a firewire in order for the computer to see it. The work around seems to be a firewire hub. Then you can plug in whatever you want. I did this when I worked in the Video lab at Otis College, in Los Angeles. Good luck.

Are your clips in the old FCP media format? Because, FCP5 puts them into little QT movies. If this is the case try exporting your media files into qt files and then reimporting them.

Well, lets start with this, in order to do a dissolve at all, you need handles. Dissolves use the handles to make the dissolve. Without them all you would have is a strait cut. Take your dissolve and drag it onto the timeline, double click it to get it into the viewer window. You can make the dissolve as long or as short as you need it using the timecode at the top of the viewer window. Then when it fits your needs save it as a favorite so you don’t have to continue all the hard work. I’ve seen dissolves as small as two frames, it’s easier on the eyes than a strait cut.
