Capturing in FCP for the Avid
I’m going to be working on a project on an Avid Adrenalyne. I’m trying to get a jump on some digitizing by capturing at home on my FCP system. Any recommendations on what settings I should use when digitizing???
I downloaded some codecs from Avid, but they only go into my Library>Quicktime folder, and don’t seem to affect the incoming footage.

You can’t. They have 2 different methods of capturing and storing their media files and associated bin information.

Assuming that your footage is only DV and you have access at home to a DV deck, then you could purchase and install the Mac version of Avid Xpress DV or Xpress Pro. This would let you capture files on your home system for use with Adrenaline.

So…tried it anyways.
FCP captures files as QT movies. I used the standard DV NTSC 48Hz to digitize the footage to a Firewire drive.
I plugged the FW into a PC running Avid, transferred the files to the computer, and then imported the files via Avid.
No problems at all — except that I had to rename each of the .mov files to include the “.mov” so that the PC would see them.

of course you’ll notice once you import those .movs into your Avid that you lost your tape and timecode metadata.

No, we do not translate FCP media into Avid media.
