Advanced Pulldown removal: Hit and Miss
I recently rented a Sony DSR 11 deck to move about 12 hours of DVXa00a interview footage (all shot 24Pa) into Final Cut 5.0.4. I used the apple capture preset for this – 29.97, remove advanced pulldown. The interviews were usually 25 to 40 minutes in length. I had a limited time with the deck so I put the tapes in and hit capture now when an interview started and then stopped at the end. Started a new “capture now” with the next interview, etc. From reading the posts on simliar subjects, I’m guessing the “capture now” procedure was the weak link, but I wound up with 21 interviews showing “none” for field dominance and the correct time code (23.98), but 9 of the interviews came back showing lower field dominance and a 29.97 timecode. What’s interesting is if I open these 9 clips in Cinema Tools, that ap reads them as 23.98 and won’t remove pulldown. When I put these 9 clips into the timeline, they get an orange render bar and play back fine, but I would prefer to re-input them and get them to the right settings rather than render. Suggestions would be helpful, particularly whether capture now was the culprit and that logging a clip, then capturing the clip might solve this? Other people with this experience? BTW, I’ve been using the Cow for many helpful problem solving sessions over the past year – thanks! – this is the first one where I’m not sure I’m searching correctly or maybe it hasn’t come up. But glad to be an official member!
