What were your settings? I seem to remember there is a ‘fill with black’, or something like that (I’m at home right now) check box…
FWIW, I export same as source with the appropriate aspect ratio checked. Nothing fancy coming out of the MC…

I’ve got 2 desks from a company called Middle Atlantic. Really decent stuff for the price. I don’t know if you can get it in the UK, but its worth a try.
We have one of their equipment racks to isolate our Mac meridian and 12 LVD drives. It really cuts down on the noise. Now if I could do something about the HVAC that sounds like a typhoon…

Stick with whatever OS Avid recommends – unless you like downtime and troubleshooting….
Clean installs of OS are always fun.

First, I would suggest the paint effect, not animatte. Paint allows you to assign a blur, mosaic, etc. to your effect.
(Please keep in mind I’m writing this from memory…)
Apply the effect. Open the effect editor. Toward the middle of the editor, you’ll see a pulldown menu. Select whatever effect you’d like to see (mosaic, for example). On the right hand side, toward the bottom, you’ll see a square (and other shapes as well). Make sure you have the blue line sitting on the first key frame, and DESELECT THE LAST KEYFRAME (caps for emphasis – if you don’t , you’ll run into the annoyance of having the paint effect moving back toward the original location). Click (for our purposes) the square, click and drag on the record side monitor – it should show up as a mosaic. Now comes the tedious part – key framing.

..Which is why Avid charges so much for Unity.
Its not the hardware, so much as the software. It acts as a traffic cop – telling each machine wether or not to update their own internal media databases. Without it, you’ll have your systems constantly updating and slowing down performance. You won’t be able to use this as shared storage unless you have Unity, or somethign like EditShare (approved by Avid). Either way, you are looking at buying at least the software, if not the whole package. If a vendor told you this would work, I’d go back and ask them to make it work.
On the bright side, you’ve got a bunch of NAS drives…

You’ve tried File / export? When you select options, you should be able to select either OMF 1.0 or 2.0.
It would help to post your system specs (OS, Avid version, etc.) when you post.

Do you have “NTSC has setup” box checked in the (I think) general settings?

Add a little bass to the VO track with an EQ effect. Export your VO (you can’t stack audio FX) and reimport. Add compression from the audio suite (you don’t really need to change anything unless you want to increase the gain).
