Any suggestions for an (inexpensive) desk to sit my edit suite on? I’m based in the UK, and want something that a director and I can sit at for many hours at a time. Not looking for anything too fancy, just sturdy enough to take 3 or 4 flat screen monitors and a bit of gubbins (all the heavy stuff will go on the floor). And if it flat packs to go in the back of an estate car, all the better. Can anyone save me from a trip to IKEA?

Are you asking for recommendation on a TABLE?
Buy whatever you like, any table can handle the weight…

For long sessions, you need good chairs, good lightning, good catering…
Also, you need a quiet room. So get your CPU’s and storage out, or at least in a sound insulated cabinet.

So the wirering/extensions will cost money. Probably about 10 times more than the table, but you will have a hell of a lot more comfort.

I’ve got 2 desks from a company called Middle Atlantic. Really decent stuff for the price. I don’t know if you can get it in the UK, but its worth a try.

We have one of their equipment racks to isolate our Mac meridian and 12 LVD drives. It really cuts down on the noise. Now if I could do something about the HVAC that sounds like a typhoon…

Another choice for lower priced editing furniture is Anthro.

But I agree that most any table surface will do if you have the right height for how you work and find a comfortable surface edge. I hate the typical Winsted edge on the table surface…much too sharp an edge for me…I prefer more of a “bull nose” or rounded edge to rest my forearms and elbows on all day. If you and/or your clients care more about your editing content and don’t really care about how your edit space looks, IKEA would suffice.

your best bang for the buck will be to custom build one.
The higher the better, for me. Ergonimics are imprtant when spending a lot of time in the chair. I like the console high sol I can lean back, tuck under it and rest my mouse arm on it.
